Chief Engineer | Mixed-use, Durham NC | $85k-$95k base salary Your new company Hays Facilities Management is partnering with a leading developer/owner who are looking to hire a Chief Engineer to lead a premier mixed-use community in the heart of Durham NC. This key hire will lead all maintenance operations across a high-profile asset, ensuring delivery of a safe, efficient, and first-class experience for residents and tenants. Your new role In this role you will be responsible for leading and supervising on-site maintenance staff and external contractors, while overseeing all aspects of property maintenance. This will include repairs, preventative maintenance programs, and capital improvements. As Chief Engineer you will ensure operational excellence through routine inspections and developing property wide procedures, while managing vendor relationships, RFP processes, and service delivery. Additional responsibilities include monitoring budgets, tracking capital projects to ensure timely completion, maintaining accurate maintenance records, and ensuring full compliance with safety regulations and local codes. What you'll need to succeed 5+ years of building engineering experience, including 2+ years in a leadership role Strong technical expertise across HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building systems HVAC Universal and CPO certifications Proven ability to lead teams and manage vendors effectively Experience with budgeting, capital planning, and RFP processes Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills What you'll get in return Additional compensation will include an annual bonus (10%), medical benefits package, PTO, and 401K.
