Full Job Description Overview:
Under the direction of the Pension Department Manager, the Pension Associate will perform specialized duties which require attention to detail and a thorough understanding of applicable rules and procedures. The job duties will include but are not limited to: customer service, data reconciliation, generating and interpreting reports, processing applications for benefits, ensuring quality service delivery to plan participants and beneficiaries. The Pension Associate is a full-time position, with a core work schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Schedule may change depending on departmental needs.
Position Functions and Responsibilities:
Determine initial benefit eligibility and process retirement and death benefit applications. Respond to inquiries from participants, beneficiaries, and union representatives relating to eligibility and Plan benefits. Determine benefit suspensions are in accordance with applicable Plan provisions and initiate correspondence with retirees. Respond to participant communication and correspondence. Ensure participant and retiree records in database are accurate and reflect correct information relating to participant basic data. Research and resolve various reporting and mailing requirements in accordance with established procedures. Assist with other duties or special projects as assigned by the Pension Manager and Supervisor.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
Associates Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of five (2) years increasingly responsible experience in pension plan administration. Experience in benefits administration systems. Proficient with all MS Office Suite products and ability to understand relational databases. Proficiency in Spanish a plus (read, write, speak, translate). Detailed research, documentation, analytical and reporting skills. Ability to complete assigned projects with a high degree of independence, initiative, and judgement. Dedicated team player with an interest in processing efficiency and effectiveness. Self-motivated and driven with ability to work independently within a collaborative work environment. Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with all levels of Management, visitors, Trustees, consultants, CSAC professionals and vendors.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position does not include supervisory responsibilities, but does include coaching and mentoring junior staff. Work Environment/ Physical Demands While performing the duties of the job, the employee regularly works in an office setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. Ability to lift 10-30 pounds when necessary. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Travel Minimal to no travel. Occasional travel to business related events, offices and/or seminars may be required.
