Job Description

About the Opportunity A respected and mission-driven public health organization is seeking a detail-oriented Benefits Assistant for an immediate 3-month contract engagement . This position will play a key role in supporting the Human Resources and Benefits team by ensuring the smooth administration of employee benefit programs for a large and diverse workforce. The ideal candidate will bring prior benefits or HR experience, strong administrative skills, and the ability to provide exceptional employee support in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Assist with the administration of employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, retirement plans, and voluntary benefits Process benefit enrollments, status changes, qualifying life events, and terminations accurately and in a timely manner Respond to employee questions regarding benefit eligibility, coverage options, claims issues, and enrollment procedures Support new hire onboarding by coordinating benefits enrollment materials and explaining available benefit offerings Maintain accurate employee benefits records within HRIS systems and ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements Audit benefits data, identify discrepancies, and work with HR and payroll teams to resolve issues Assist with leave administration documentation, including FMLA, disability, and other employee leave programs Support open enrollment activities, including employee communications, system updates, data verification, and enrollment tracking Qualifications 2+ years of experience in Human Resources, Benefits Administration, HR Operations, or a related field Experience working with HRIS platforms such as ADP Workforce Now, Workday, UKG, or similar systems Knowledge of employee benefits administration, enrollment processes, and HR best practices Strong data entry, auditing, and recordkeeping skills with exceptional attention to detail Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills Preferred Experience Experience supporting benefits administration for a workforce of 200+ employees Exposure to open enrollment processes and benefits vendor management Familiarity with leave administration, COBRA, ACA compliance, or retirement plan administration Prior experience within healthcare, public health, nonprofit, or government environments Why This Opportunity Stands Out Hands-on exposure to a broad range of benefits and HR operations functions Collaborative and supportive HR team environment Opportunity to build experience with large-scale employee benefit programs Meaningful work supporting an organization dedicated to improving community health and well-being Potential for extension based on organizational needs and performance
