Job Description

Reporting directly to the County Administrator, the Veterans Service Officer directs and manages the Veterans Service Department operations and staff to ensure veterans, their dependents and surviving spouse receive information and assistance necessary to apply for County, State VA and Federal VA benefits, programs and services they may be eligible for due to the military service.
Key Responsibilities:
Federal Benefits Assistance:
provide information and support on the following Federal programs: VA Disability, Health Care, Burial Benefits, Change of Address, Education Benefits.
State Benefits Assistance:
provide information and support on the following state programs/assistance: Education Benefits, Burial Benefits, Emergency Aid (loans/grants).
Local Benefits Assistance:
provide information in navigating the following local programs: burial benefits and ceremonies, transports veterans to appointments, emergency aid (loans/grants). Participates/plans local events, including public speaking duties, event planning, providing transportation as necessary. Visits local communities, creates monthly newsletter, process vouchers and payroll, orders office supplies, creates/monitors department budget, engages in yearly/quarterly planning. Bachelor's Degree required. Honorable Discharge from Active Duty in US Armed Forces and other requirements as set forth by Chapter 45 of WI. Stats. upon hire. Accreditation to present/prosecute claims before the US Department of Veterans Affairs is required and may be obtained after hire.
Pay:
$29.25 - $33.20 per hour
