Job Description:
A large oil and gas company is seeking a Compensation/Benefits Counsel to join their team in a part time (~20 hours per week) fashion for about 2-3 months with potential for extension. This role will be on-site as often as possible each week in the company's office on the west side of the Houston area.
Required responsibilities include:
Advise on the design and operation of benefit plans, including medical, dental, disability, life, and EAP offerings Ensure compliance with applicable laws, including ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, and Mental Health Parity requirements Review vendor and insurance contracts related to benefits Support initiatives such as wellness programs, dependent audits, and plan changes Potential responsibilities include: Advise on the design and administration of executive compensation programs, including equity plans, incentive plans, deferred compensation, and employment and severance arrangements Support compliance with relevant tax code provisions, including 409A, 280G, and 162(m) Assist with proxy and SEC-related compensation disclosures, including CD&A, compensation tables, and pay-for-performance disclosures Provide guidance for compensation committee matters and governance practices Provide legal support for pension and 401(k)/savings plans Ensure compliance with ERISA and related regulations Review plan communications, including SPDs, notices, and reports Assist with benefits claims and appeals The best-suited candidates will have experience in all of the required responsibilities, and ideally some or all of the potential responsibilities. J.D. from an accredited U.S. school is required, in addition to a full background check before submission to the client. On-site presence in their Houston-area office is required (no remote candidates). Pay will be commensurate with experience, likely around $90 - $100 per hour, via W-2 with Legalpeople.
