NATURE OF WORK
The HR Generalist - Benefits Administration & Credentialing supports Fairfield Memorial Hospital by administering employee benefits, overseeing credentialing compliance, and providing guidance on HR lifecycle processes. This role serves as a key resource to employees and leaders, ensures regulatory and accreditation compliance, maintains audit‑ready documentation, and partners with leadership and vendors to support open enrollment, benefits administration, and workforce readiness. The position also serves as payroll backup to ensure operational continuity.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Administer employee benefit programs, including eligibility determinations, enrollments, and qualifying life events Serve as primary liaison with benefit carriers and vendors to resolve issues and ensure accurate coverage Coordinate and support annual open enrollment activities, benefits communication, and employee education Administer employee leave programs, including FMLA, state‑mandated leaves, ADA‑related leaves, workers' compensation coordination, and hospital leave policies Determine leave eligibility, track leave usage, manage documentation, and ensure timely return‑to‑work coordination Advise employees and managers on leave policies, timelines, and compliance requirements Support retirement plan administration and respond to employee inquiries Manage employee change events, including benefit terminations, COBRA processes, and status changes Prepare documentation for audits and regulatory reviews related to benefits, leave, and payroll Serve as payroll processing backup and assist with payroll audits and data validation Provide responsive, professional, and confidential support to employees regarding benefits and leave matters
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Preferred:
Master's degree in Human Resources, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
EXPERIENCE
Required:
Minimum of 2-3 years of HR experience with a focus on benefits administration, compliance, or credentialing.
Preferred:
Experience in a healthcare or hospital environment preferred; Payroll processing or payroll backup experience preferred. SKILLS Strong knowledge of employee benefits, leave administration, and employment laws including ERISA, HIPAA, ACA, FMLA, ADA, and FLSA Ability to interpret policies, plan documents, and regulatory requirements accurately and consistently Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills with high attention to detail Ability to communicate complex or sensitive information clearly and professionally Proficiency with HRIS, payroll, benefits, and leave management systems High level of discretion with the ability to maintain strict confidentiality Strong time‑management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced healthcare environment Professional judgment and a service‑oriented approach when supporting employees and leaders
