00 per hour Preferred Student Classification Sophomore or Junior Nature & Purpose of Position The Student Assistant for New Student Onboarding & Transition Programs (SOTP) supports the planning, coordination, and execution of onboarding initiatives for incoming students, including Bearkat Kickoff (BKO). This role provides administrative, operational, and event support to ensure a welcoming and organized transition experience for new students.
Primary Responsibilities
Assist with event preparation and coordination of Bearkat Kickoff and New Student Onboarding planning efforts
Provide front-facing office support, answering questions from students and families regarding the SHSU new student onboarding process (phone, Zoom, email, in-person)
Develop engaging digital content that can be shared across various online/social media platforms (website, videos, flyers, Instagram/Facebook, etc.)
Take photos and/or videos for Bearkat Kickoff and New Student Onboarding events/programs Preferred Skills & Experience
Familiarity with SHSU campus resources, services, and support systems
Extremely detail oriented and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills to support office communication efforts, including email correspondence
Expert with digital storytelling to run @shsubearkatsonboard (Bearkat Kickoff/Onboarding & Transition) social media platforms
Familiarity with Canva or Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.)
Basic photo and/or video editing skills (CapCut, iMovie, etc.)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, etc.) Other Requirements for the Position
REQUIRED WITHOUT EXCEPTION
Must be available to work Bearkat Kickoff from August 13th
- August 18th.
During the summer months: must be available to work at least Wednesday
- Friday from 2 PM
- 5 PM for summer Orientation sessions (flexibility around class schedule)
During the Fall/Spring semester: must be able to work 15-20 hours per week (flexibility around class schedule) Open Date 04/27/2026
