ABOUT US
  • Chrysalis is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending domestic abuse in our community.
Since 1981, we have provided 24-hour crisis shelter, counseling, advocacy, transitional housing, and outpatient treatment services to survivors and families across the Phoenix metro area. We are a trauma-informed, mission-driven team in an active period of growth — and we are looking for the right person to help us build the HR infrastructure to support it.
  • THE ROLE
  • We are hiring an HR Manager to own the day-to-day execution of our HR function.
This is a hands-on, operational role for someone who takes pride in getting things right, builds strong partnerships with leadership, and brings calm, organized energy to a fast-moving environment. You will report directly to the CEO and work closely with senior leadership to ensure our team stays compliant, well-supported, and set up for continued growth.
  • WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Manage all payroll processing through PayCor — accuracy, timekeeping, and auditing Own onboarding and offboarding from start to finish — offer letters, I-9s, background checks, orientation, and system setup Administer employee benefits — enrollment, vendor communication, open enrollment, and
ACA/ERISA
compliance Maintain complete, audit-ready personnel files for all staff Ensure HR compliance with Arizona and federal employment law, ADHS and AHCCCS requirements, and OTC licensure standards Partner with leadership and managers on employee relations matters, performance documentation, and disciplinary processes Support managers through PIPs and difficult conversations — providing documentation guidance and process structure Coordinate recruiting logistics — job postings, interview scheduling, and offer letter prep Maintain and update the Employee Handbook in partnership with leadership and legal counsel Track required staff trainings and certifications Serve as a trusted, confidential resource for staff HR questions
  • WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Required:
3+ years of HR experience in a generalist, manager, or HR operations role Demonstrated hands-on experience with payroll systems — Paycor strongly preferred Solid knowledge of Arizona and federal employment law, I-9 compliance, and benefits administration Experience in HR operations — onboarding, offboarding, compliance tracking, and recordkeeping Proven experience supporting employee relations and partnering directly with leadership Experience in a nonprofit, social services, or mission-driven organization strongly preferred Strong written documentation skills — policies, offer letters, PIPs, audit files Highly organized with exceptional follow-through Comfortable handling sensitive information with discretion Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent work experience A Plus —
Not Required:
SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent HR certification — a great indicator of commitment to the profession, especially for candidates earlier in their HR career Experience in domestic violence, behavioral health, or a licensed treatment setting Familiarity with ADHS, AHCCCS, or OTC compliance environments Experience supporting regulatory audits or compliance surveys
