Location:
Onsite in San Jose, CA Industry experience: Retail, warehouse or manufacturing Language skills: Candidates must be bilingual in English-Mandarin OR English-Spanish. This resource will frequently communicate with English, Mandarin or Spanish speaking stakeholders. Position Summary The HR Advisor serves as the primary Human Resources contact for a supermarket store location, managing the full spectrum of HR functions. This role supports store leadership and employees in employee relations, recruitment, compliance, workers' compensation, performance management, training, and HR administration. The position operates with a high degree of independence, requiring a proactive, hands-on approach to anticipate issues and drive solutions in a fast-paced store environment.
Essential Job Duties Employee Relations:
Act as the first point of contact for workplace issues, conduct impartial investigations, and provide recommendations to management.
Full-Cycle Recruitment:
Manage recruitment for hourly and exempt store positions to meet fulfillment rate targets.
Performance Management:
Advise managers on recognition, discipline, documentation, and terminations, ensuring fairness and compliance.
Compliance:
Ensure adherence to federal, California state, and local employment laws (e.g., wage and hour, meal/rest breaks, leave requirements).
Workers' Compensation & Safety:
Manage WC cases, coordinate return-to-work programs, and observe operations to identify safety risks.
Training:
Support delivery of mandated training, including harassment prevention and workplace violence prevention. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or Business Administration. Minimum 5 years of progressive hands-on HR experience in California, specifically in high-volume, hourly workforce environments (retail/supermarkets/restaurants/warehousing/manufacturing). Strong knowledge of Federal and California employment laws (wage/hour, leaves of absence). Proven ability to work independently as the primary HR resource at a location. Experience in non-union employee relations and Workers' Compensation management. Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Candidates must be bilingual in English-Mandarin OR English-Spanish. This resource will frequently communicate with English, Mandarin or Spanish speaking stakeholders. #
