Job Summary:
The Human Resources Manager will lead the organization's HR functions and office management in a lean, fast-paced non-profit setting. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will partner closely with a small team of managers to drive recruitment, employee engagement, and HR compliance. This role also includes important office management responsibilities, such as covering for absent employees and ensuring the facility is ready for guests. You will be responsible for hiring, onboarding, and scheduling training for all full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees who deliver our programs. This position includes direct supervisory responsibility for the Bookkeeper and Visitor Services team, ensuring these functions are aligned with organizational goals. The ideal candidate balances strategic HR leadership with hands-on operational support in a dynamic and mission-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Human Resources Management (50%) Lead full-cycle recruitment for staff and contractors, including job posting, interviewing, offer extension, onboarding, and offboarding. Manage employee records and HR database with accuracy and compliance, conducting regular audits to ensure compliance, accuracy, and completeness. Manage HR-related technology planning and budgeting, and oversee vendor relationships in collaboration with the organization's technology services provider to ensure efficient and compliant operations. Develop and oversee training schedules and programs for part-time and seasonal employees. Support management team with employee relations, conflict resolution, and performance management coaching. Administer compensation, benefits, and relevant HR programs aligned with organizational goals. Ensure organizational compliance with all local, state, and federal labor laws and HR regulations. Maintain strict confidentiality of all employee and organizational information, demonstrating the highest levels of professionalism. Office Management & Operational Support (25%) Provide coverage and support for employees who are absent, ensuring continuous office and visitor services operations. Coordinate facility cleanliness, organization, and guest readiness with staff and external vendors. Manage operational systems to support a smooth working environment. Strategic Leadership & Culture (25%) Act as a trusted strategic advisor to the CEO and leadership on workforce planning, culture, and organizational effectiveness. Lead initiatives to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) across the workplace. Coordinate employee engagement and recognition programs to boost morale and retention. Support the summer intern program, including recruitment, onboarding, and performance evaluation.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
Minimum 3 years of experience as a Human Resources Generalist with hands-on HR operational expertise. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted. SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or actively pursuing certification within 12 months of hire. Strong labor law expertise with the ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local employment regulations effectively. Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times. Experience or proven capability in office management or administrative operations. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and able to adapt quickly to new HR technologies and information systems. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize competing demands in a small-team, fast-paced environment. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds regularly. Able to work in a moderate noise environment with some physical activity related to office and facility upkeep.
