The Director will oversee and manage all aspects of the Weston Public Schools human resource functions including recruitment and retention, employment, regulatory compliance and reporting, policy administration, and record-keeping for all licensed and non-licensed employees. About the Weston Public Schools The Weston Public Schools enrolls approximately 2,000 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. The school district includes a high school for grades 9-12, a middle school for grades 6-8, an upper elementary school for grades 4-5, and two lower elementary schools for pre-kindergarten through grade 3. Since 1967, Weston has participated in METCO (Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity) - a voluntary school integration program that places Boston residents in suburban schools. The Weston METCO program enrolls approximately 150 students (K-12). Key Responsibilities Leadership, Management, and Compliance Develop a strategic human resources function that supports and enhances the mission of the Weston Public Schools. Maintain complete personnel records and employment files to ensure the accuracy of employees' compensation, position eligibility and compliance with state and federal regulatory mandates Maintain updated employee handbook, personnel procedures manual Maintain and update employee job descriptions, ensuring equity and consistency across the system Expand the use of software to manage, track and analyze HR data Serve on all employee negotiations and develop compensation bands for administrator salaries Support building administrators and system staff in investigating and responding to employee relations matters; support the Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendent in investigating and responding to grievances. Serve as Title IX Coordinator for the district. Ensure accuracy and timeliness in all required state and federal HR reporting Provide annual trainings and guidance to administrators and staff related to Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Parental Leave, Fair Labor Standards Act, etc. Process information related to employees leaving the school system (retirement, exit interviews, unemployment, COBRA, etc.) consistent with local, state and federal regulations. Collaborate with Town of Weston and Weston Public Schools administrators on matters related to benefits administration and collective bargaining Recruitment and Retention Strategy Develop and implement a strategic recruitment plan that strengthens the systems ability to recruit and retain diverse pools of high quality educators and other staff including building external partnerships with colleges, universities and educator preparation programs. Develop a positive, collaborative working relationship with school leaders and staff to support the recruitment, selection, onboarding, management, and retention of high quality candidates and staff Advise the Superintendent on extending employment offers and setting salaries. Consult with principals and other managers in planning for: projected vacancies, and advise on candidate screening, selection, hiring, staffing as needed Design and implement a comprehensive onboarding and orientation processes for new employees. Provide leadership and consultation for principals and educators regarding licensure Offer guidance and updates to teaching staff regarding licensure and certification requirements, continuing professional education, and career advancement Ensure that required background checks are completed on all candidates Desired Qualifications Minimum of five years of experience working in the field of human resource and/or school leadership Public sector experience, ideally in an educational setting, strongly preferred Supervisory experience required Experience with collective bargaining preferred Bachelor's degree required. Masters degree preferred Ability to work collaboratively, anticipate effectively, generate solutions, and communicate clearly required Compensation and Benefits The Director of Human Resources is a year-round role, and the salary range is $129,633 - $166,255 per year. Additionally, the Weston Public Schools offers a comprehensive benefits package, including subsidized health insurance and participation in the Massachusetts Teachers' Retirement System or the Middlesex County Retirement System.
