The Role:
As Associate Director of Human Resources, you will lead and manage all human resource functions for the district, ensuring compliance with federal and state employment laws, Board policies, and best practices. You will oversee staffing, employee relations, benefits administration, labor relations, and personnel processes while supporting a positive and productive work environment. You will serve as a key advisor to administration on personnel matters, including hiring practices, discipline, performance management, and organizational effectiveness. Demonstrates strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws including FLSA, FMLA, HIPAA, and related regulations Has experience managing HR functions such as staffing, benefits, leaves, and compliance Maintains accurate employee records and ensures compliance with legal and Board policy requirements Oversees payroll and benefits processes with accuracy and efficiency Manages workers' compensation and unemployment claims processes Develops and implements fair, consistent, and legally compliant hiring practices Effectively manages employee leaves including FMLA, sick leave, and other absences Maintains certification, tenure, and personnel records in accordance with Michigan requirements Oversees employee onboarding, contracts, and employment documentation Maintains and updates employee handbooks, job descriptions, and HR systems Supports employee training compliance including required safety and legal trainings Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and handles sensitive and emotionally charged situations effectively Provides leadership in employee discipline, performance management, and conflict resolution Advises administrators on personnel issues, evaluations, and staff management Participates in labor negotiations and maintains labor relations documentation Communicates effectively with staff, administration, and community stakeholders Ensures compliance with state reporting and transparency requirements Demonstrates strong organizational, technical, and communication skills Maintains confidentiality and professionalism in all HR matters Is flexible, collaborative, and able to perform other duties as assigned
