Job Description
Hiring Department Dean of Education & Human Development Job Description Summary The Assistant Director of Human Resources serves as a trusted, confidential advisor and HR thought partner to the Dean of the College of Education and Human Development. This role provides expert guidance on HR policies, employee relations, performance management, and workforce decisions, requiring strong judgment, professionalism, and the ability to build trust when handling sensitive and complex matters. Reporting directly to the Dean with accountability to the Associate Vice Chancellor of Human Resources, the position acts as the primary liaison between the College and the Office of Human Resources while ensuring effective and collaborative execution of HR initiatives. Key Responsibilities Employee Relations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations matters, including complaints, conflict resolution, and workplace investigations.
- Conduct or coordinate investigations and advise leadership on corrective actions, assessing risk and ensuring compliance with university policies.
- Counsel managers and employees on performance concerns, behavioral expectations, and policy interpretation.
- Partner with leadership on employee separations, including transitions, involuntary terminations, and offboarding, exercising discretion and sound judgment. Compensation & Classification
- Conduct job audits, classification analyses, and complete Position Classification Questionnaires (PCQs).
- Develop and update position descriptions aligned with organizational needs and institutional standards.
- Evaluate and advise on reclassifications, equity adjustments, and out-of-cycle pay requests.
- Partner with the College and central HR on market analysis and internal equity reviews. Recruiting & Onboarding
- Consult with hiring managers to enhance and streamline recruitment and interviewing processes.
- Provide guidance throughout the hiring lifecycle, from position planning to candidate selection.
- Implement and continuously improve an employee-centered onboarding experience.
- Assess workforce needs and recommend strategies to support effective staffing and retention. Supervision & Collaboration
- Provide direction, supervision, and mentorship to HR staff within the College.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performing HR team and serve as an effective thought partner to college leadership.
- Work closely with central HR partners to ensure consistency, alignment, and quality service delivery. HR Programs & Policy Implementation
- Advise the Dean and leadership on HR programs, policies, and institutional practices.
- Support implementation of HR initiatives related to performance management, development, and workforce planning.
- Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, operational efficiencies, and the overall employee experience. Shift Monday
- Friday 8am
- 5pm Minimum Qualifications A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary Preferred Qualifications SHRM or HRCI Certification and/or advanced degree preferred.
Anticipated Hiring Range Salary Range:
$85,000- $110,000 annually
