In this pivotal role, you will oversee all aspects of human resources management, including talent acquisition, employee relations, organizational development, compliance, and HR technology systems. Your leadership will drive strategic planning efforts to align HR practices with organizational goals, ensuring the organization attracts, develops, and retains top talent. You will serve as a trusted partner to senior leadership, championing initiatives that enhance employee engagement, operational efficiency, and organizational growth. The Akron Civic Theatre is a renowned cultural landmark in downtown Akron, OH, celebrated for its rich history and its role as a premier venue for live entertainment and theatrical performances. Built in 1929, The Civic is one of only five atmospheric theaters of its size remaining in the country, serving The mission of The Akron Civic Theatre is to enrich the lives of people of all ages and backgrounds throughout the region by presenting a diverse array of local and national performing artists and community events.

Location:
On-site at Akron Civic Theatre, 182 South Main Street, Akron, OH.
Duties/Responsibilities:
•Collaborates with senior leadership to understand the organization's goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention. Plans, leads, develops, coordinates, and implements policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support the organization's human resource compliance and strategy needs. Administers or oversees the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development. Identifies staffing and recruiting needs; develops and executes best practices for hiring and talent management. Oversee biweekly payroll processing, ensuring accurate and timely compensation, tax filings, and recordkeeping; may process payroll or supervise outsourced/vendor support depending on operational needs. Conduct research and analysis of organizational trends. Monitors and ensures the organization's compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommends best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance. Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management. Develops and implements departmental budget. Provides support for employee professional development and training. Administers employee benefits programs, including health, retirement, and leave; manages open enrollment, vendor relationships, and benefits compliance Manages HR processes across a multi-classification workforce, including full-time staff, part-time and seasonal employees, event-based front-of-house staff, and independent contractors; ensures consistent onboarding, scheduling support, and policy application across classifications. Maintains worker classification compliance (W-2 vs. 1099) for performers, production support, and other contracted talent; coordinates with finance on related documentation and reporting. Coordinates with volunteer leadership on onboarding, screening, and policy standards for volunteers working alongside paid staff. Performs other duties as required.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn an HRIS and talent management systems. Working knowledge of Ohio and federal employment law, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII, OSHA, and state-specific wage and hour rules. Demonstrated experience coaching managers through performance issues and conducting workplace investigations. Experience designing, revising, or implementing employee handbooks and core HR policy frameworks. Experience administering benefits and a retirement plan (e.g., 401(k)/403(b)) for a non-profit or comparably sized organization.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; equivalent combination of education and experience considered. At least five years of human resource management experience required. SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR is or highly preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
