Job Description

Job Summary:
Director of Safety & HR We are seeking an experienced and motivated Safety & HR Director to oversee all safety, compliance, human resources, and driver management functions within our transportation operation. This position reports directly to the Owners and plays a critical leadership role in developing, implementing, and maintaining company policies, safety programs, and regulatory compliance standards. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of
DOT/FMCSA
regulations, safety management, HR practices, driver supervision, and transportation operations. This role requires a hands-on leader who can effectively manage personnel, improve safety performance, and ensure operational compliance across the organization. Responsibilities Manage the Safety/HR Department, including Safety Supervisor, Driver Manager, and Assistant staff Develop, implement, and maintain company policies and procedures Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSR, DOL, EEOC, OSHA, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations Supervise and support daily driver operations and performance Screen, interview, hire, orient, and onboard CDL drivers Develop and administer onboarding and training programs for drivers, mechanics, and office staff Evaluate and revise safety programs to ensure regulatory compliance and operational effectiveness Monitor
CSA BASIC
scores, telematics, accidents, injuries, and safety trends Develop safety initiatives, incentive programs, and accountability measures Establish and facilitate safety committee meetings and ongoing safety training Investigate accidents and incidents, maintain accident files and registers, and coordinate documentation including photos and repair estimates Oversee post-accident procedures and claims management, including workers' compensation and vehicle accident claims Utilize CAPA processes for pharmaceutical load issues, including investigation, corrective action planning, implementation, and follow-up Advise management on employee relations matters and performance improvement plans (PIPs) Conduct internal audits and reporting related to safety and compliance Establish qualification standards for all job classifications Qualifications Previous experience in transportation safety, HR management, or fleet compliance required Strong knowledge of
DOT/FMCSA
regulations and transportation compliance standards Experience managing safety programs, accident investigations, and claims processes Knowledge of OSHA, DOL, EEOC, and employment regulations Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills Experience supervising employees and managing departmental operations Proficient in Microsoft Office and transportation management systems CDL and/or safety certifications are a plus Preferred Skills Certified Director of Safety preferred Experience with CSA score monitoring and telematics systems CAPA investigation and corrective action experience Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Pay:
$65,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
