Assistant Director of Human Resources 12 month position•
SY 2026-2027
Central Office
Montgomery County Public Schools, Virginia is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Director of Human Resources. This is a twelve month position.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
To assist the Director of Human Resources in providing human resource management including recruitment, onboarding, staff retention, and labor relations.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists the Human Resources Director in providing human resource management
Supports the Director in hiring and employment processes for Finance, Facilities, Transportation, and School Nutrition
Provides guidance and support to help interpret and clarify School Board personnel policies/regulations to all employees
Assists the Director in overseeing the orientation of new employees to division policies and practices
Carries out federal and state employment rules and regulations Carries out policies and procedures established by the School Board
Monitors staffing levels in adherence with the division's budget
Provides guidance and support for the employee evaluation system
Works with the Director to advance the division's diversity, equity, and inclusion goals through intentional outreach and inclusive practices
Conducts investigations as required
Addresses non-compliance issues
Performs research, responds to surveys, prepares HR/personnel reports
Supervises HR staff to maximize productivity, efficiency and effectiveness of the department
Demonstrates experience or working familiarity with Google Drive for instruction, collaboration, and coursework and expertise in using technology in education and administration
Engages in a collaborative leadership style
Cultivates an inclusive, equitable, and warm learning environment for a diverse student population
Fosters positive relationships and a productive work culture
Models professional behavior by being dependable, punctual, and present
Manage the implementation and adherence to human resources components of collective bargaining agreements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in education, human resource management, public administration, or a related field
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to problem solve and address multifaceted concerns by analyzing information, evaluating options, and identifying the best approach
Proven ability to effectively communicate and present information to the School Board, staff, and community stakeholders
Comprehensive understanding of School Board policy and state and federal employment laws
Experience with human resources information systems, including software for hiring, employee management, and performance evaluation
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in educational leadership, public school administration, human resources management or related field
SHRM-CP or
SHRM-SCP
certification
Minimum of five years combined experience in school administration and/or human resources management
Experience with MUNIS/Tyler Technologies
SALARY:
$101,479.50
30 annually, with benefits; commensurate with experience (salary may change due to 2026-2027 budget considerations)

- MCPS and MCEA have a collective bargaining agreement that establishes shared expectations and responsibilities, creates clear workday guidelines, protects professional time, and promotes fairness, teamwork, and respect.
MCPS is currently the only school division in Southwest Virginia with a collective bargaining agreement.
