As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Human Resources Director plays a vital role in shaping the culture, operational excellence, and long-term talent strategy of the hotel. This position helps drive business success through effective people leadership, organizational development, employee engagement, and labor relations expertise.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Human Resources Director at the Hilton Seattle Airport Hotel & Conference Center is a senior strategic and operational leader responsible for directing all aspects of the Human Resources function for the hotel. Reporting directly to the General Manager and partnering closely with the Corporate Director of Human Resources for Paramount Hotels, this position oversees talent acquisition, labor relations, employee engagement, leadership development, compliance, compensation, benefits, HR systems, and organizational effectiveness. This role serves as a trusted advisor and business partner to executive leadership, helping align people strategies with operational and financial goals while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as collective bargaining agreements within a unionized environment. The ideal candidate is an experienced hospitality HR professional with a strong operational mindset, exceptional leadership presence, and the ability to influence and coach leaders at all levels of the organization. This individual will champion a culture of accountability, engagement, inclusion, and service excellence while driving initiatives that support both employee satisfaction and guest experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide strategic HR leadership and serve as a key member of the hotel Executive Leadership Team Develop and execute human resources strategies aligned with hotel business objectives and corporate initiatives Lead all employee and labor relations matters, including investigations, grievance management, conflict resolution, corrective action, and interpretation/application of collective bargaining agreements Partner closely with union representatives and leadership teams to maintain productive labor-management relationships Oversee full-cycle recruitment, workforce planning, succession planning, onboarding, and retention strategies for all hotel departments Develop and implement leadership development and management training initiatives to strengthen organizational capability and bench strength Mentor, coach, and develop HR team members while fostering accountability, growth, and operational excellence within the department Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws, wage and hour regulations, company policies, and hospitality industry standards Lead performance management initiatives including evaluations, coaching, progressive discipline, and talent development planning Analyze workforce trends, turnover metrics, engagement data, labor costs, and HR analytics to support strategic decision-making Drive employee engagement, recognition, wellness, and culture initiatives that enhance morale, retention, and overall workplace experience Oversee compensation administration, leave management, benefits coordination, and payroll partnership with Finance and corporate teams Lead HRIS management, system implementations, process improvements, and HR operational efficiencies Support organizational change management initiatives and operational transitions as needed Maintain accurate HR records, reporting, compliance documentation, and audit readiness Ensure managers and department leaders consistently follow company policies, HR best practices, and leadership expectations Provide coaching and guidance to leaders on employee performance, accountability, communication, and team development Manage HR budgets, vendor relationships, recruitment partnerships, and training resources Serve as an ambassador of the Paramount Hotels culture, values, and service philosophy Stay current on evolving HR trends, labor laws, hospitality workforce challenges, and industry best practices Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Hospitality Management, or related field required (or equivalent combination of education and experience) Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive Human Resources experience, including at least 4-5 years in a senior HR leadership role Previous experience as an HR Director, Assistant Director of HR, or senior HR leader in a hotel or hospitality environment strongly preferred Direct union and labor relations experience required; experience working within collective bargaining environments strongly preferred Multi-department hotel or resort HR leadership experience preferred Professional HR certification such as SPHR, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SHRM-CP strongly preferred Experience supporting large operational teams in a fast-paced hospitality environment preferred Experience leading HRIS implementations, organizational change initiatives, and culture transformation efforts preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong business acumen with the ability to align HR strategy with operational and financial objectives Extensive knowledge of employment law, labor relations, wage and hour compliance, investigations, and HR best practices Proven ability to build strong relationships and influence leaders across all levels of the organization Exceptional leadership, coaching, mentoring, and team development skills Demonstrated success managing employee relations and navigating complex workplace situations with professionalism and discretion Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and conflict resolution abilities Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives simultaneously Analytical mindset with experience utilizing HR metrics and workforce data to drive decisions High level of integrity, professionalism, confidentiality, and executive presence Proficiency with HRIS systems, applicant tracking systems, payroll systems, and Microsoft Office Suite Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced hospitality environment with changing business demands Passion for creating an engaging, inclusive, and service-focused workplace culture
