Job Description

At VGM, the Human Resource (HR) team implements policies, manages day-to-day HR activities, welcomes new hires to the company, and provides support to all business units and employee owners. Position Summary:
The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for applying HR policies, procedures, and programs to the employees of VGM. In this role, the generalist will respond to HR inquiries and support the Vice President of Human Resources in implementing appropriate HR guidelines, policies, and programs. Responsibilities will include employee relations, FMLA and ADA administration, leave of absence management, compliance, and crucial conversations with employee owners and leaders.

On-site at VGM's main campus in Waterloo, Iowa or hybrid (on-site at least 4 days per week)
Work Hours Classification:
Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm CST, with additional hours as needed
Key Responsibilities:
The Human Resource Generalist will be responsible for handling a variety of personnel related administrative tasks and will provide clerical support to the HR department and employees regarding human resources related activities, policies, processes, and procedures. Advise employees and leaders on all employee relations matters, including but not limited to, performance management, coaching, conduct, grievances, complaints, investigations, absences and leaves, organizational change, and exit interviews Facilitates proper employee documentation and records in HR systems, compiling reports as needed to ensure employee databases remain accurate and up to date Assist with preparing and facilitating new employee onboarding in partnership with team members Responsible for people-related metrics and collaborating with corporate data analytics team Develop, implement, reinforce, and modify HR policies, programs, and procedures Audit HR policies, programs, and procedures against relevant legislation and best practices and recommends improvements Provide advice and assistance to employees and managers on HR policies, programs, and procedures Resolve HR inquiries or escalates to the appropriate individual depending on severity Assists in the preparation of HR training material and validates managers and employees are aware of appropriate HR policies, programs, and procedures and their accountabilities Support the VP of HR in implementing efficiently and effectively talent management programs: performance management, succession planning, diversity and inclusion and special projects Ensure projects are completed on time and meet project goals Provide support for onboarding and offboarding, including managing logistics with appropriate teams (e.g., IT, HR shared services) and assisting with exit interviews
Key Qualifications:
Education and experience: The Human Resource Generalist will need to have proven experience with employee relations, including but not limited to crucial conversations, performance management, and implementing HR policies. Bachelor s degree (or equivalent) in HR, Business, Organizational Development, or related field 3+ years of experience in a professional HR role with daily duties that included employee relations, enforcing HR policies, leave administration, and crucial conversations HR certification or willingness to pursue basic certification Experience working with HR information systems Demonstrated skills with Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) Preferred bilingual in Spanish and English in order to effectively support and communicate with VGM employee owners, ensuring everyone is heard

Applies knowledge about the business and employee to inform decision making and problem solving, solicits feedback from others as needed. Strives to provide additional value to the employee experience.
Physical requirements:
Normal HR Generalist activities may require travel and so incumbents must be able to always obtain and maintain valid travel documentation. Normal HR activities may require working outside of standard business hours (8:00am-5:00pm).
