Job Description
Headquartered in Novi, Michigan, Star Cutter Company has developed into a world leader in the cutting tool industry. Star Cutter employs over 750 employees in six domestic manufacturing facilities and global operations in Europe, Mexico, China, and Brazil. Each manufacturing facility specializes in producing a specific type of product or service: solid carbide cutting tools, carbide blanks and preform, gear cutting tools, round tools, and 5-axis CNC tool and cutter grinding machines. In support of our Northern Michigan multi-plant operations, we are seeking a capable and accomplished professional for the key role of Employee Relations and Training Specialist. Key Responsibilities Employee Relations Act as supporting HR contact for employee relations issues across multiple plant manufacturing operations Investigate workplace concerns including attendance, safety violations, policy and/or values breaches Partner with general managers, plant managers and other leaders on communications, performance management, and employee engagement Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as internal policies. Play an active role in developing employment policies and processes. Monitor trends such as turnover, absenteeism, and engagement to recommend proactive solutions Training & Development Develop and deliver training programs for frontline employees, supervisors, and managers Develop succession planning module/process, addressing macro trends and reducing risk around key positions. Support onboarding and orientation for hourly and salaried plant employees Ensure compliance training is completed in a timely manner (e.g., safety, workplace conduct, harassment prevention) Partner with operations to identify skill gaps and implement technical and cross-training programs, including apprenticeships where applicable Community and Government Affairs Lead and support in a range of initiatives focused on building participation in the communities in which Star Cutter does business. Work with local management teams to develop community engagement priorities, calendars, and budgets. Coordinate and track initiatives and activities. Build familiarity with state and local government leaders. Participate in opportunities to build relationships and provide feedback on behalf of the business Safety & Compliance Integration Collaborate with Environmental, Health & Safety teams to reinforce safety culture Support incident investigations and corrective action plans Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement in safety practices Leadership & Strategy Partner with plant leadership to align workforce strategies with production goals Drive employee feedback initiatives that improve employee engagement, retention, and morale in a shift-based environment Lead or support change management efforts Manage training budgets and resources effectively
Skills and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of employment law and experience in a plant setting Experience designing training programs and delivering aspects of employee training, including skill development and compliance training. Familiarity with OSHA standards and manufacturing safety requirements Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both frontline employees and leadershipEducation and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or related field 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environmentPay and Benefits:
