This role will act as a strategic advisor to leadership on employee relations, labour relations, workplace investigations, performance management, and compliance matters. The ideal candidate will have strong experience handling sensitive workplace matters, managing union relationships, conducting investigations, coaching leaders, and driving proactive employee and labour relations strategies. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage complex workplace investigations involving harassment, discrimination, retaliation, policy violations, and employee complaints while ensuring fairness, confidentiality, and legal compliance. Provide strategic labour relations leadership by supporting union relations, collective bargaining activities, grievance management, and labour strategy initiatives aligned with business objectives. Lead negotiations and support dispute resolution efforts by using strong mediation, influencing, and conflict management skills to achieve balanced and sustainable outcomes. Support conflict resolution between employees, union representatives, and management through professional communication and mediation. Partner with leadership teams to create and manage Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) and provide guidance on handling difficult employee conversations. Advise managers on disciplinary actions, employee terminations, and corrective action processes while ensuring compliance with company policies, collective agreements, and labour laws. Analyze employee relations trends such as turnover, recurring complaints, grievances, and workplace concerns to identify risk areas and recommend solutions. Serve as the subject matter expert on company policies, employee handbook guidelines, labour relations practices, and HR best practices. Ensure compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local labour and employment laws, collective agreements, accommodations, whistleblower protections, and workplace regulations. Coach and guide leaders on employee management, labour relations, workplace behavior, and communication strategies. Support organizational changes, restructures, and leadership transitions by identifying workforce-related risks and implementing effective communication plans. Maintain accurate and detailed documentation related to investigations, grievances, disciplinary actions, and employment decisions. Build strong relationships with employees, union representatives, HR teams, and leadership to improve employee engagement and workplace culture. Promote a respectful, inclusive, and psychologically safe work environment. Required Skills & Competencies Strong judgment and ability to handle sensitive workplace matters objectively and professionally. Strategic labour relations leadership experience with expertise in union relations, collective bargaining, grievance handling, and labour strategy. Strong negotiation, mediation, and dispute resolution skills with the ability to manage escalated workplace and union matters effectively. Strong knowledge of employment laws, labour legislation, collective agreements, HR policies, and workplace compliance requirements. Ability to advise senior leadership on labour risks, policy interpretation, and employee relations best practices. Experience conducting workplace investigations and resolving complex employee relations issues. Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and de-escalation skills. Ability to coach leaders and influence decision-making across all organizational levels. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify workplace trends and root causes. Experience working with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office tools, including ADP Workforce Now and Microsoft 365. Ability to manage multiple high-priority and confidential matters simultaneously. Strong organizational, documentation, and reporting skills. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Professional HR certifications such as CHRP, CHRL, SHRM-CP, or
SHRM-SCP
are preferred. 7 to 10 years of progressive HR, Employee Relations, or Labour Relations experience with strong exposure to union environments, workplace investigations, and leadership advising. #INDW3
