Job Description
Henry Investment Group Full-Time, Exempt In-Office (Monday-Friday) Flower Mound, TX Payroll Specialist & HR Generalist Henry Investment Group (HIG) is looking for a Payroll Specialist & HR Generalist to join our Human Resources team. HIG's HR Department operates as a shared service across our portfolio companies, supporting approximately 600+ employees in Texas, Florida, Georgia, and beyond. Our portfolio includes everything from portable restrooms to windmills to restaurants—so no two days look the same. This position is primarily responsible for accurate and timely payroll processing across multiple companies, states, and pay schedules. In addition to payroll, this role applies generalist knowledge to support the broader HR function, including onboarding, compliance, benefits administration, and employee relations, as part of a small, collaborative team. This employee will work 100% of the time in our Flower Mound office, Monday through Friday. We are currently a team of 3 and are lucky to have managerial contacts and advocates across dozens of locations. Who Is Most Likely to Enjoy This Challenge? Someone whose primary strength is payroll—multi-company, multi-state, deadline-driven—and who also brings solid generalist instincts to the table. A true HR Generalist at heart. On any given day, you may be answering questions about onboarding, health insurance, unemployment, coaching, policy, or regulatory compliance—just to name a few. A team player who works well with a small team's shared responsibilities and is comfortable wearing multiple hats. Someone who can reimagine a current process and make it better. We have the framework in place, but we constantly re-evaluate to ensure what we have is working for our companies and operators. Comfortable navigating DOL, EEOC, and similar agency resources, and has created policies and processes from scratch. Due to the unique nature of our corporate structure, this position often requires starting from zero rather than revising existing templates. At your core, you like learning and growing. We want to provide our sites with the tools to handle day-to-day challenges and enhance their strategic use of HR. Adaptable to changing priorities while remaining calm. Payroll Responsibilities Process payroll for multiple entities across various states on weekly and bi-weekly schedules. Maintain employee payroll records including new hires, terminations, rate changes, and deductions. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and wage & hour laws. Assist with multi-state tax setup, withholding updates, and jurisdictional payroll requirements. Review and audit employee timesheets for accuracy, completeness, overtime compliance, and proper approvals. Support payroll transitions related to acquisitions and onboarding of new portfolio companies. Research and resolve payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries in a timely manner. Reconcile payroll reports and assist with internal and external payroll audits. Assist with year-end activities including W-2 preparation, audits, and reporting. Support multi-state unemployment filings, BLS reports, and unclaimed property compliance. Validate and reconcile the following on each payroll cycle: Overtime and premium pay, Garnishments and levies, Benefit deductions, 401(k) and retirement contributions, and Imputed income and taxable benefits HR Generalist Responsibilities Partner with HR, Benefits, and Finance teams to ensure accurate employee data flow across all portfolio companies. Support onboarding, offboarding, and employee lifecycle processes. Assist with benefits administration, open enrollment, and employee benefits inquiries. Contribute to policy development, documentation, and compliance efforts across multiple industries and states. Respond to employee and manager inquiries on HR topics including leave, workplace policies, and employment law basics. Maintain HR documentation and follow established SOPs and internal controls. Exposure to job sourcing may be part of this role during a transition period. Qualifications 5+ years of payroll processing experience, including multi-state and multi-company (multiple FEINs) preferred. 2+ years of HR generalist experience. 2+ years of recent experience administering ADP Workforce Now. Working knowledge of FLSA wage and hour requirements and payroll tax regulations. Experience supporting payroll during company acquisitions or system transitions. Knowledge of multi-state taxation and local payroll requirements. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the broader Microsoft Office suite. High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to meet strict deadlines. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive payroll and employee information. Experienced working at small to mid-sized companies and comfortable across a variety of industries. Work Environment Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment supporting a growing organization with multiple portfolio companies. Requires daily collaboration across Payroll, HR, Benefits, and Finance departments. Small team with high autonomy—you will own most of the payroll function and are expected to manage most processes independently.
