POSITION SUMMARY
The Human Resources Generalist (Payroll Lead) owns the payroll operations for Rigaku Americas Holding for a multi-state and international workforce. This role is responsible for end-to-end payroll delivery for approximately 400 U.S. employees across 25+ states, while also coordinating payroll operations for a handful of employees in Brazil, Canada, Colombia, and Mexico. This is a high-impact role operating in our Workday environment. This position serves as the functional payroll system lead, partnering directly with external consultants to manage configuration, reporting, testing, and enhancements. Beyond payroll processing, the role oversees payroll tax compliance, workers' compensation, unemployment, immigration case coordination, and broader HR operations support. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in ownership, enjoys optimizing processes post-implementation, and wants meaningful influence over payroll and HR infrastructure.

Essential Functions:
Lead end-to-end bi-weekly payroll processing across multiple U.S. states, including audits, off-cycle runs, and state-specific final pay compliance Coordinate international payroll operations with local processors/employer of record to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant processing Oversee year-end payroll activities, including W-2 reconciliation and reporting Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws (FLSA, overtime, leave laws, pay frequency, final pay requirements) Manage payroll tax registrations, filings, deposits, reconciliations, and agency correspondence (941/940, state/local withholding, SUI/SUTA) Research regulatory updates and resolve complex payroll matters independently, escalating with risk assessment and recommended solutions Serve as internal functional lead for Workday Payroll, partnering with external consultants on configuration, testing, releases, reporting, integrations, and system enhancements Develop payroll reporting, audit checks, and internal controls to ensure data integrity across onboarding, timekeeping, benefits deductions, and payroll inputs Coordinate with Finance on payroll funding, general ledger mapping, and account reconciliations Administer wage garnishments, unemployment claims, and workers' compensation wage reporting and audit support Serve as primary liaison with immigration counsel, managing visa case coordination and maintaining I-9 and E-Verify compliance Provide general HR operations support, including onboarding documentation (I-9, tax forms, direct deposit), employee file maintenance, policy rollouts, and employee/manager support Support benefits administration by validating payroll deductions, assisting with open enrollment and life event changes, coordinating vendor funding, and resolving payroll-impacting benefit issues Partner cross-functionally with various internal groups and external vendors to improve processes, strengthen controls, and maintain audit readiness Develop and maintain scalable SOPs, documentation, and compliance calendars

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Business, Accounting, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience required
Experience:
3+ years of hands-on payroll experience supporting 200+ employees in complex multi-state environments (15+ states preferred), with strong knowledge in payroll compliance 1+ years of experience coordinating international payroll operations 2+ years of experience in general HR operations
Computer Skills:
Experience processing payroll within an HR system, preferably Workday Strong Excel skills Ability to use Microsoft Office suite
Certificates & Licenses:
SHRM-CP or PHR preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role is performed in a typical office setting with controlled temperatures, artificial lighting, and minimal exposure to noise or environmental hazards. Work primarily involves sitting at a desk, using a computer, and operating standard office equipment such as phones, printers, and copiers.
