Job Description Location:
Arlington, VA Tax Equity Risk Insurance Specialist Position Overview We are seeking an experiencedTax Equity Insurance Specialist to lead the structuring, underwriting, and placement of specialized tax equity insurance policies. In this role, you will support the Project Finance team to identify and structure insurance solutions related to Investment Tax Credits ("ITCs") with advisors/brokers connected with A-rated global carriers
Key Responsibilities Transactional Advisory & Execution:
Lead the execution of ITCs from initial structuring through policy inception. Draft comprehensive underwriting submissions and negotiate policy terms, exclusions, and retention levels to ensure optimal risk mitigation for tax equity investors.
Technical Risk Analysis:
Evaluate complex tax positions, including qualification for ITCs, domestic content bonuses, Energy Community additives and prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements
Carrier & Market Engagement:
Maintain deep relationships with domestic insurance underwriting markets. Market transactions to carriers, defend the validity of the underlying tax positions, and pricing
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Act as the strategic link between client project finance teams, external tax counsel, independent engineers, and underwriters to streamline the due diligence process and resolve technical tax structuring deadlocks.
Market Intelligence:
Monitor evolving IRS guidance, Treasury regulations, and legislative updates affecting renewable energy tax incentives and transferability
Required Experience & Technical Competencies Tax Expertise:
Deep, verifiable experience evaluating or structuring clean energy tax credits (ITCs) and a thorough understanding of partnership flip. Education /
Background:
an advanced CPA background is heavily preferred, ideally gained within a transactional tax practice of a Big 4 accounting firm's national tax office, or an active renewable energy developer/investor.
Structuring Aptitude:
Proven capability to interpret legal documents (e.g., LLAs, PPAs, EPC contracts, and Tax Opinions) to pinpoint exactly where an indemnity or insurance policy needs to step in.
Transactional Execution:
Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in project finance, tax equity syndication, or transactional risk underwriting/broking.
