Global Ambassadors are study abroad returnees and student leaders who support the work of the Study Abroad unit within the Center for Global Engagement. Advising Assistant Global Ambassadors are experienced study abroad returnees who provide peer advising and student support. This role focuses on helping students navigate the study abroad process while developing professional advising and communication skills. The position is for a one-year academic term, beginning Fall 2026 and concluding at the end of the Spring 2027 semester.Duties and Responsibilities:
Hold weekly office hours for peer advising sessions, both drop-in and scheduled. Lead 30-45 minute informational sessions. Help monitor the Study Abroad inbox and answer commonly asked questions. Assist with minor website updates and edits. Help coordinate advising events and other campus outreach activities. Work at events such as the Study Abroad Fair, Family Weekend Brunch, and Taste of Study Abroad, among others. Train Global Dukes on advising best practices. Attend required professional development trainings throughout the academic year. Assist with special projects as assigned, under the direction of the Assistant Director of Advising and Student Support. Maintain a professional appearance while wearing CGE-issued apparel.Qualifications:
Availability to work 5 hours per week during standard business hours. Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends. Strong written and communication skills. Openness to feedback and adherence to advising guidelines. Previous JMU study abroad participation is required before the start date. Preference is given to students who have studied abroad on more than one program. Attendance at required professional development trainings throughout the academic year, including mandatory, in-person training from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on August 24 and 25, 2026.Additional Posting Information:
