Job Description
Description We are looking for an HR Generalist to support a construction and contractor-focused organization in Norfolk, Virginia through a Contract assignment. This role will contribute to core human resources operations by assisting with employee relations, onboarding, benefits administration, and day-to-day HR coordination. The ideal candidate brings practical HR knowledge, strong communication skills, and the ability to help managers and employees navigate people-related processes with professionalism and accuracy.
Responsibilities:
- Support daily human resources activities across the employee lifecycle, including documentation, policy guidance, and administrative coordination.
- Flexible within a quickly growing company
- Assist with onboarding activities by interviewing, preparing employment paperwork, coordinating new employee setup, and helping employees transition smoothly into their roles.
- Respond to employee questions and workplace concerns while escalating sensitive issues appropriately and maintaining confidentiality.
- Maintain accurate personnel records and update HR information systems to ensure compliance and reliable reporting.
- Partner with supervisors and internal stakeholders to address HR matters and promote consistent application of company practices.
- Contribute to learning, development, and organizational support efforts by helping coordinate training activities and related programs.
- Participate in problem-solving and process improvement initiatives to strengthen HR service delivery and employee support.
- Assist with HR reporting, audits, and other administrative tasks needed to keep department operations organized and efficient. Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience in human resources, preferably in a generalist or broad HR support capacity.
- Working knowledge of employee relations, HR administration, onboarding, and benefits coordination.
- Experience using HRIS platforms to maintain records, process updates, and support routine reporting.
- Ability to communicate clearly and handle sensitive information with sound judgment and discretion.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with structured problem-solving approaches and process improvement concepts is helpful.
- Exposure to HR strategy, learning and development support, or organizational development activities is preferred.
