Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the HR Director and the Career Development Manager, the HR Trainee will work with a variety HR personnel in various tasks. While in each department, this team member will learn about HR Operations and have hands-on experience with what the department does, what responsibilities the department has, and how they play a role within the Human Resources Department as a whole. This is an entry-level HR Trainee position where the Trainee will be employed so long as the trainee is pursuing and progressing in education and training requirements in conjunction with the Career Development Program. With successful completion of training, education and work requirements as determined by HR management, this position may lead to a regular, full-time position within the HR Department at a future date. In addition, the HR Trainee will receive mentorship and individualized guidance to assist in the development of the required skills necessary to become a regular HR team member.
MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This list is intended only to illustrate the various types of work that may be performed. Comply with training requirements as established by the Career Development Program. Observe, learn, and gain hands-on experience in a variety of HR functions. Perform administrative work, including scheduling, maintaining personnel files and sorting mail for the Human Resources department. Develop skills in using Microsoft Office software applications, especially Excel and Word. Assist HR staff with specific duties: Performs front-desk duties; answers telephones, takes and delivers messages, refers calls to proper HR staff Assist HRIS Analyst with creating and distributing Personnel/Payroll Action Notices (PAN) for Payroll Processing Assist Recruiters with assembling and collecting required new hire paperwork Coordinate logistics for new hire orientations and employee training sessions May perform other basic HR-related tasks in conjunction with other HR Analysts and staff Because of the Tribe's commitment to community service and the wellbeing of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.
EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION
Must be an enrolled Muckleshoot Tribal member. Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION
Knowledge of:
General office principles and practices Software applications relative to the position assignment Proper English grammar, usage and spelling Word processing and spreadsheet applications
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents must be able to pass a background investigation. At the completion of the Career Development Program, the HR Trainee must be able to demonstrate the following skills and abilities: Maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive matters. Have a basic understanding of the regulatory guidelines within the HR Department. Strong interpersonal and human relation skills. Demonstrates effective customer service, in-person, electronically, and via telephone. Firm grasp of MS Outlook and Word. And has a basic understanding of MS Excel. Can operate a variety of office equipment, such as a fax machine, pc and copier. Able to follow oral and written instructions. Adapting to frequent interruptions and changes in workload demand. Conducting research for specific work assignments. Maintains high levels of accuracy and attention to details. Accepts personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work. Has an exceptional attendance record and understands the importance of showing up for work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, climb stairs, talk and hear, and walk. Continuously uses vision. Frequently talks and listens. Manual dexterity for computer work and routine paperwork. Occasionally walks and reaches with hands and arms. Occasionally lifts up to 25 lbs. Licenses or Certifications Required A valid Washington State driver's license is required at the time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe
