District Primary Purpose:
To assist and promote La Joya ISD in implementing a rigorous curriculum/instructional program that supports student success and achievement.
Department Primary Purpose:
Identify and recruit migrant students to the district. Act as a liaison between the school, home, and migrant community. Provide an avenue of communication and support which affect a migrant students' progress in school. Prepare and maintain files of all records required for the Migrant Department and state mandated reports related to migrant students in a professional manner in order to contribute to the overall effectiveness of the program.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) certificate.
Valid Texas Drivers License and Automotive Insurance Experience:
Must have some experience working with the community and/or in migrant education
Knowledge:
Ability to communicate effectively (English and Spanish) with school, parents of migrant students. Demonstrate aptitude for the successful performance of the tasks assigned. Ability to travel throughout the district. Considerable knowledge of departmental rules, regulations, procedures and functions. Attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality. Conversant with district, state and federal policies and procedures.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Actively identify and recruit all eligible migrant children residing in the school district from 0-21 years of age and obtain parent signature for documentations of eligibility. This includes, for example, surveying the area, periodic survey of students, establishing communication networks, establishing work relations with other community agency personnel, employers and social services. Complete, distribute and maintain a Certificate of Eligibility according to state/federal guidelines for each eligible migrant family immediately upon their arrival in the school district (regardless of whether student is in school or not). Be knowledgeable of all eligibility requirements. Interview families to determine eligibility for migrant services. Make home visits to migrant families to communicate available school services, programs and area social services. Promote activities between students, parents, educators and communities and assist schools and parents to organize active Parent Advisory Committee (PAC). Gather and update attendance and leavers as needed. Distribute Educational/Health records to campuses. Work with campus nurses to update migrant students' health records. Compile pertinent data to prepare required federal, state, and local reports. Maintain physical and computerized files and databases, including Certificates of Eligibility, federal database of migrant students, and other student records. Communicate available school services and programs to migrant families in the school district. File correspondence, migrant student, records or other records in prescribed manner. Locate and remove information as needed; keep accurate records. Comply with policies and regulations by district, federal and state law. Adept at using all features of the telephone and two-way radio system. Keep immediate supervisor well-formed of activities, results of effort and problems identified/potential situations. Respect confidentiality in discussing visitors/staff, volunteers and organizational matters and personnel related information. Observe and identify safety and security procedures and report unsafe conditions. Perform all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself/or others. Participate in staff development that leads to improved job performance, and required workshops. Perform all other duties assigned by the Migrant Service Director. Follow all Work from Home Protocols when working remotely.
