HR Recruitment Specialist - Prominent University in Norfolk, VA Norfolk, VA | Monday-Friday, 8AM-5
PM Pay Range:
$24.50 -$26.00 Temp PeopleShare Norfolk is seeking an HR Recruitment Specialist to support a respected university in the Norfolk area. This role partners closely with HR leadership, hiring managers, and university administrators to deliver high‑quality HR services aligned with institutional goals. ✨
Job Duties The HR Recruitment Specialist:
Builds strong partnerships across HR to support university objectives and unit‑level needs. Leads all phases of the recruitment process, including maintaining job descriptions, posting positions, screening applicants, conducting interviews, completing reference and background checks, extending verbal offers, preparing written offers, and onboarding new hires. Collaborates with HR staff and university administrators on salary recommendations, start dates, and hiring details. Ensures compliance with recruitment and selection policies, procedures, and protocols. Prepares regular and ad‑hoc HR reports. Organizes and leads New Hire Orientation and HR‑related training sessions. Processes annual faculty contracts, including spreadsheet updates, timelines, mail merges, and follow‑ups with deans and applicants. Partners with Payroll to ensure accurate compensation information. Maintains current knowledge of HR best practices, legal/regulatory updates, and recruitment trends; updates manuals and policies as needed. Cross‑trains and provides backup support for other HR functions. Maintains an open‑door environment that encourages faculty and staff to share concerns comfortably. Handles sensitive information with discretion and communicates only with authorized parties. Supports faculty and staff by listening, identifying resources, and facilitating solutions. Understands university operations and uses information effectively to support decision‑making. 📌 Minimum Qualifications Considerable HR experience in at least two areas: employee relations, benefits, compensation, recruiting/employment, grievance resolution, performance management, diversity/equal opportunity. Working knowledge of HR recruitment, benefits, compensation practices, laws, and regulations. Strong analytical skills related to recruitment, compensation, benefits, and employee relations. Excellent interpersonal skills, including partnership‑building, conflict management, negotiation, mediation, facilitation, and communication. Ability to maintain confidentiality and collaborate across all levels of the university. Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to design and implement solutions aligned with organizational goals. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, changing environment. Experience with HR systems such as
RMS, PMIS, BES, VNAV.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new systems quickly. ⭐ Additional Considerations HR experience within the Commonwealth of Virginia. Experience in a college or university environment. SHRM‑CP, SHRM‑SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification. Master's degree in Human Resources or related field. #IND.34 :
