Job Description

We are a privately owned, multi-state retail organization with 17 upscale locations nationwide and aggressive expansion plans, including 12 additional locations within the next year. We are seeking a senior-level Human Resources Director / Talent & Recruiting Lead to oversee HR operations, recruiting, onboarding, and compliance across all locations. This is a hands-on, in-office leadership role for an experienced HR professional who can operate autonomously, manage sensitive matters with discretion, and scale people systems during rapid growth. This position is not entry-level and requires demonstrated experience independently managing HR functions. Key Responsibilities Human Resources Leadership Serve as the primary HR authority for all employee-related matters across multiple states. Own, update, and enforce the Employee Handbook, HR policies, and onboarding documentation. Maintain accurate, compliant employee records and personnel files. Track PTO, sick leave, and personnel changes. Handle confidential employee relations matters with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment. Recruiting & Talent Acquisition Manage the full recruitment lifecycle, including: Drafting and posting job descriptions Reviewing resumes and applications Conducting phone and in-person interviews Screening candidates for culture, role fit, and performance expectations Recommending qualified candidates to executive leadership Coordinate hiring needs across multiple stores and departments. Support workforce planning for existing and new locations. Onboarding & Employee Experience Act as the first point of contact for all new hires. Draft and issue offer letters and clearly explain compensation and benefits. Present onboarding materials and ensure all documentation is completed accurately. Conduct new-hire orientation covering store operations, scheduling, dress code, customer-first service standards, and security expectations. Compliance & Operations Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including FLSA, FMLA, EEOC, and OSHA requirements. Coordinate required store and employee licenses or registrations. Maintain compliance calendars, audit checklists, and documentation standards. Partner with Finance/Payroll (e.g., QuickBooks) on new hires, terminations, pay changes, and reporting. Strategic HR Initiatives Lead the implementation of an HRIS platform in 2026. Assist with the rollout of a company-wide health insurance plan in 2026. Build scalable HR processes to support rapid, multi-state expansion. Required Qualifications (Applicants Must Meet All Requirements) Minimum 5 years of professional experience in Human Resources (multi-site or retail experience strongly preferred). Demonstrated experience independently managing recruiting, onboarding, and employee relations. Working knowledge of employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, EEOC). Experience maintaining or updating an employee handbook. Proven ability to manage confidential and sensitive employee matters with discretion. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Highly organized with strong follow-through and attention to detail. Tech-savvy (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, spreadsheets, basic reporting, ChatGPT). Reliable transportation and valid driver's license. Bachelor's degree required. Ability to pass a comprehensive background and reference check. Full-time availability during business hours (Mon-Sat, 9:00am-6:00pm). In-office position. Preferred Attributes Experience negotiating employment terms or understanding contractual language.
