Job Description

Position Overview The Technical Director (TD) is responsible for the overall technical framework, player development model, and long-term player developmental vision of Vacaville United Soccer Club. The TD ensures alignment across all competitive and recreational programs while working collaboratively with the Executive Director and Director of Coaching. The TD focuses on club-wide technical strategy, standards, and systems , while the Director of Coaching focuses on daily coaching execution and team management , and the Executive Director oversees operations and administration functions . Core Areas of Responsibility Club Technical Vision & Philosophy Develop, implement, and maintain the club's Technical Development Plan. Define and document Vacaville United's playing philosophy and game model. Establish age-specific player development standards (U6-U19). Ensure alignment across recreational, competitive, and elite pathways. Review and update the curriculum annually. Player Development Pathway Design and oversee a clear player pathway from grassroots to elite levels. Define progression benchmarks for each age group. Create technical standards for ball mastery, tactical awareness, and physical literacy. Develop position-specific development frameworks. Monitor individual player development tracking systems. Lead IDP (Individual Development Plan) structure for competitive players. Coaching Development & Standards (Working alongside the Director of Coaching) Establish minimum licensing requirements for coaches by level. Develop an internal coach education program. Lead quarterly coach development workshops. Create coaching evaluation tools and feedback systems. Mentor senior coaching staff. Identify future coaching leaders within the club.
Note:
The DOC manages team assignments and day-to-day coaching operations. The TD sets standards and education systems. Curriculum & Training Methodology Build age-appropriate seasonal training curriculum in line with ED's current programming. Standardize training session structure across the club. Implement player-centered coaching methodology. Ensure consistency in technical and tactical terminology. Introduce modern sports science principles appropriate for youth players. Talent Identification & Pathways Oversee club-wide player evaluation systems. Design and manage tryout evaluation framework. Collaborate with DOC on team formation standards.
Establish relationships with:
NorCal Premier Soccer CIF / local high schools College programs ODP and regional identification programs
ECNL & MLS NEXT
Support elite player placement and college pathway guidance. Competitive Standards & Game Model Implementation Define club tactical identity. Oversee implementation of systems of play by age group. Observe games regularly to ensure alignment with philosophy. Provide structured feedback to coaching staff. Analyze competitive performance trends across teams. Technical Staff Leadership Serve as technical leader for all assigned soccer programming. Collaborate weekly with Director of Coaching & ED. Participate in staff hiring recommendations (technical evaluation). Conduct annual technical reviews of coaching staff (with
DOC & ED
). Support conflict resolution related to technical matters.
Note:
DOC has final say over all coach placements and ED over all final hires and terminations. Program Development & Growth Promote and grow current programming. Conduct VUSC assigned additional programming (PC's, camps, clinics, etc), responsible for staffing with DOC support, structuring and management of each program. Propose new initiatives (e.g., futsal, pre-academy, girls development program). Develop long-term strategic technical roadmap (1-3 years). Support growth in competitive standards within NorCal Premier leagues. Player & Parent Communication (Technical Matters) Present monthly report to the board of directors. Can be in person or submitted to the ED to report on TD's behalf. Provide parent education workshops (development expectations, pathway clarity). Address high-level technical concerns escalated beyond team coach.
Note:
The Executive Director manages operational communication and administrative issues. Risk Management & Player Welfare (Technical Scope) Ensure safe training environment standards. Promote age-appropriate workload guidelines. Monitor overtraining risks. Support mental wellness awareness initiatives. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Increased player retention year-over-year Improved coach licensing levels Documented curriculum implementation across age groups Competitive progression in NorCal leagues Growth in college placements Positive parent satisfaction surveys Clear player pathway adoption Ideal Qualifications USSF B License (A Preferred) or equivalent experience UEFA B License or higher Minimum 5-7 years youth technical leadership experience Strong understanding of long-term athlete development (LTAD) Experience within NorCal Premier or US Club Soccer system Proven coach educator and mentor Experience in ECNL and

pathways Bachelor's Degree (Masters Preferred) or equivalent experience

$30,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
