The Education and Workforce Development program supports men and women served at Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities and in the community to improve their skills, discover their strengths, overcome barriers, and learn effective job-search, attainment, and retainment techniques. Through intentional and individualized one-on-one and group support, education, and workforce development training, program participants learn the skills necessary to move towards a life of increased income and self-sufficiency.POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Education and Workforce Development provides leadership to the Education and Workforce Development department with limited supervision in alignment with UGMTC's mission, values and goals. This position oversees all aspects of the department, including professional and administrative leadership, strategic direction, curriculum development and facilitation, program participant engagement, and program evaluation and outcomes. The education program is comprised of two integrated components; LifeNet, which provides foundational education and career development skill building, and Career Services, which supports participants in securing and retaining employment, pursuing education, or volunteering. An internal Chemical Dependency Technician program provides on-site workforce development training. Additional workforce development training is available and supported through a privately funded scholarship available to some program participants. This person manages the relationship and coordination with other UGMTC department and organizational leaders, volunteers and community partners to enhance access, strengthen coordination, and drive positive outcomes.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Exercises independent judgment in planning, setting direction, and decision-making regarding the operations, processes, and procedures of the Education and Workforce Development Department. Develops, interprets, and enforces policies and procedures consistent with those of UGMTC to ensure efficient and safe operations. Implements a continuous improvement model including evaluating effectiveness and implementing program changes to meet current and changing needs; is accountable for the achievement of outcome based, strategically aligned program objectives for Education and Workforce Development. Seeks to increase program capacity and impact by building relationships with business leaders and community partners to open doors to employment opportunities and external vocational training programs. Oversees and ensures utilization of client tracking software by Education and Workforce Development to enable tracking and accurate reporting on participant progress and program objectives. Maintains other program records and reports. Establishes a welcoming and safe environment for men and women to learn and grow. De-escalates and resolves issues and conflicts that occur with staff and/or program participants. Prepares, analyzes, and manages a budget of $500,000+. Approves all purchasing of supplies, services, and materials to meet program objectives and fiscal requirements. Partners with supervisor and development team to support donor and funder engagement, communication and revenue growth strategies. Leads team in developing, selecting, and leveraging best practices to promote academic growth, workforce development, and spiritual growth and support for program participants. Develops program plan detailing schedule, goals, and program requirements; coordinates with other staff as needed to ensure the department meets residential program participants' needs. Provides support to program participants as needed to provide coaching and/or discuss program participation and progress. Addresses and responds to internal and external questions regarding UGMTC's mission, vision, statement of faith and core values. Partners with Volunteer Coordinator to oversee and train Education and Workforce Development volunteers. Oversees operations, administration and reporting of privately funded scholarship to support program participants' ongoing education. At any time, with or without notice, performs other duties and activities as assigned.MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in education, administration, non-profit management or a related field or equivalent work experience. 5 years of experience working in adult learning and/or workforce development. 3 years of work experience managing programs, or non-profit management, with budget management responsibility. 3 years of experience supervising or leading teams. Experience working with individuals facing barriers due to mental health, homelessness, poverty or addiction.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Demonstrate a working understanding of biblical principles and applies them through leadership, teaching, coaching, and mentoring. Program management, organization, and evaluation; able to transfer knowledge into positive program outcomes. Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with all policies and state and federal laws. Collaborate as needed with supervisor and/or other departments to make decisions regarding administrative, procedural, employee, or program participant needs. Self-motivated; ability to analyze complex information, define and solve problems independently or in collaboration as needed. Conflict prevention, de-escalation and resolution skills; exceptional judgement and professional boundaries. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, client tracking software and other business-related applications. Apply knowledge of other UGMTC departments and services to explain them to program participants and staff. Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies, in a culturally diverse community.WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT
Work is performed in a typical interior office/classroom in a shelter environment. Work requires pushing, pulling, reaching, crouching, stooping, walking, twisting, carrying, and other physical activities. Must be able to lift 10-15 lbs. Limited exposure to physical risk.BENEFITS
