About Genesee Community College:

GENERAL FUNCTIONS
The Director of Workforce Training Development advances Genesee Community College's mission, vision, and values by leading the non-credit portfolio within the Division of Academic Affairs. This role oversees the design and delivery of technical training and community education programs and collaborates across the College to support student success through credit for prior learning, stackable credentials, and micro credentials. Critical to this role is the ability to establish and maintain relationships within and beyond the GCC campus community, collaborating with various industry and community partners. The Director engages with a wide range of audiences and works effectively within shared governance structures. This position represents the College across the four-county service area (Genesee, Livingston, Orleans, and Wyoming) of the Workforce Investment/Development Boards and the State University of New York (SUNY). The role requires a demonstrable commitment to honest and ethical practice, strong leadership, adaptability, effective strategic planning, and a results-oriented approach.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and sustain partnerships with counterparts across SUNY and with industry, community organizations, and workforce groups to inform and advance technical training and non-credit educational offerings Provide leadership and supervision for BEST Center staff, including team development, performance management, professional growth, and conflict resolution Communicate effectively across diverse audiences using clear, consistent, and culturally responsive approaches Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify workforce needs and design, deliver, and evaluate responsive programs and services Lead engagement efforts through employer outreach, industry associations, SUNY or grant-funded workforce development consortia, and regional business organizations Convene and facilitate advisory committees, curriculum development processes, and other industry-driven planning groups Oversee development and negotiation of contract training agreements, including scope, content, and pricing within established guidelines Manage departmental and project budgets, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and public funding regulations Recruit, hire, train, supervises, and evaluate office personnel and instructors Ensure adherence to college policies, procedures, and accreditation requirements Contribute to institutional planning processes, including strategic, academic, technological, facilities, and budget planning, as well as resource prioritization Actively participate in peer and departmental staff meetings, college committee meetings as appropriate, and collaborate across departments and divisions within the college Conduct formal presentations to the GCC Board of Trustees, community, and professional groups Fulfill other responsibilities as directed by the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Job Requirements:
EDUCATION
A bachelor's degree is required. A master's degree is preferred. Degrees in business, organizational development, education and/ or a related field preferred. Alternatively, an associate's degree with a minimum of 15 years of experience in workforce development and/or the industrial/commercial construction or manufacturing industries is required.
EXPERIENCE
Required:
client relationship management budget development and management program management project management required proven success creating and implementing strategic initiatives previous supervisory experience
Preferred:
design/delivery or workforce-development programming coordination of apprenticeships industrial/commercial construction or manufacturing industries familiarity with curriculum mapping and instructional methods grant management experience familiarity with the economic drivers of the GLOW (Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming Counties) Region preferred.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Required:
Ethical and transparent budget development and budget management skills Strong communication skills - ability to effectively and appropriately engage with a wide range of stakeholders. Proficient at presenting and public speaking. Demonstrated experience supervising staff and promoting an office atmosphere of respect and collegiality Strong organizational skills Comfort with incorporating data into strategic decision making A strong commitment to diversity. Is mindful of and develops accessibility solutions that can accommodate all individuals to use GCC facilities without barriers, both digitally and physically.
Preferred:
A strong interest and/or direct experience with: Advanced manufacturing trends Emerging trends in workforce development and/or technical training Ability to assess organizational training needs Instructor recruitment, supervision, and evaluation The changing landscape in computer technology and life-long learning topics Adult-learning methodologies, curriculum design, and course administration and implementation.
Additional Information:
RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs and works collegially and collaboratively with many internal and external stakeholders.
SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is an in-person, Batavia campus-based, twelve (12) month appointment. Salary, benefits, and conditions of employment are set by the Genesee Educational Association (GEA) contract. Position is compensated at $80,129.94. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.
