The Bemidji Youth Hockey Association is looking for a Hockey Director. This is a paid position that will be appointed by the BYHA Board of Directors to be reviewed and approved annually.

BYHA seeks to provide a community and volunteer driven program to promote the growth and development of our players through the sport of hockey. Our association works to promote a family-focused, fun, fair, and safe environment that maximizes participation and the development of the Lumberjack hockey player. The Lumberjack hockey player is a tenacious and passionate competitor with all the necessary skills, is trustworthy, well respected and has a natural feel for the game. Position Overview The Hockey Director serves as a key leader within BYHA and is responsible for advancing the organization's mission through strong leadership, communication, organization, and program oversight. This position plays an important role in supporting the association's strategic priorities, strengthening hockey operations, enhancing player and coach development, and building positive community engagement and organizational reputation. Primary responsibilities fall within three core areas: Hockey & Player Development Coaching Development Membership & Community Development The ideal candidate will have hockey leadership experience, strong organizational and management skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with volunteers, coaches, families, and board members. This individual should value BYHA's history and culture while helping move the organization forward. Position Expectations The BYHA Board of Directors has developed this job description to outline the primary responsibilities and expectations of the role. Responsibilities may be adjusted by the Board as needed to support the evolving needs of the association. Schedule & Availability The typical work schedule is highly variable, and flexibility is required. Evening and weekend availability is expected to support practices, games, tournaments, camps, clinics, and other association events. Work hours may vary depending on the season, current projects, and operational needs of the organization. RESPONSIBILITIES
Hockey & Player Development Chair and lead the Association's Hockey Development Committee. Oversee implementation and annual evaluation of BYHA's Hockey Development Plan. Serve as the primary liaison between the Hockey Development Committee and the Board of Directors, including providing regular Board updates and monthly reports. Design, coordinate, and communicate the association's player evaluation and tryout process. Develop and oversee a comprehensive goaltender development program, including identifying and supporting a Goaltender Development Director. Plan, organize, and execute player development opportunities including: Let's Try Hockey Little Lady Lumberjacks Preseason camps 3-on-3 spring leagues Summer camps Specialty clinics and skill development programs Coaching Development Recruit, interview, and assign coaches to appropriate teams based on experience, qualifications, and program fit. Facilitate regular coaching meetings to support communication, alignment, and development across the association. Guide and support coaches in completing USA Hockey certification and continuing education requirements. Provide ongoing mentorship and development resources to enhance coaching quality and consistency throughout the organization. Membership & Community Development Develop and implement a consistent association-wide communications and engagement strategy. Support promotional and public relations efforts through web, social media, print, email, and local media outlets. Create and manage a communications/editorial calendar to improve consistency and visibility of BYHA programs and events. Support membership growth initiatives by actively promoting hockey participation and engaging youth and families in the Bemidji community. Assist with recruitment, outreach, and community engagement efforts focused on growing the game at all levels.
