Our Training Compliance Division TCOLE's Training Compliance Division ensures the integrity and effectiveness of key law enforcement programs across Texas. We oversee the licensing and appointment of peace officers, jailers, and telecommunicators, the state's law enforcement training curricula, as well as all TCOLE training academies and providers. We oversee the School Marshal program, Texas Law Enforcement Peer Network, the High School Pipeline to Criminal Justice program and new agency/training provider creation. Who We're Looking For The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) is seeking a Sergeant, Regional Trainer to join the Training Compliance Division at our headquarters located at 6330 East Hwy 290, Austin, TX 78723 The Sergeant, Regional Trainer performs advanced training and instructional work. Responsible for planning, coordinating, conducting, and documenting regional training programs statewide to ensure compliance with TCOLE standards, agency policies, and applicable laws and regulations. Work involves coordinating statewide training schedules, securing training locations, developing and updating lesson plans and instructional materials, maintaining training records, and preparing training-related reports. Conducts classroom instruction, workshops, presentations, and practical training exercises for licensees and stakeholders. Reviews training documentation and related records to ensure compliance with established standards. Works closely with the Training Compliance Captain regarding statewide training operations, program development, compliance initiatives, and instructional standards. The job class is 9909 and the salary range is dependent on prior state service as a Commission Law Enforcement Officer. This is a Salary Schedule C

Examples of Work Performed Plans, coordinates, schedules, and conducts regional training programs statewide. Develops, reviews, updates, and maintains lesson plans, instructional materials, and training documentation. Coordinates training locations, equipment, travel arrangements, and logistical support for training events. Conducts classroom instruction, workshops, presentations, and related training activities. Monitors attendance and administers testing during training activities. Ensures training activities and documentation comply with TCOLE standards and applicable requirements. Maintains, reviews, audits, and documents training records, rosters, certifications, and attendance records. Enters, reviews, and audits training data within TCLEDDS. Prepares and submits training, compliance, and operational reports. Coordinates with instructors, training providers, outside organizations, and agency staff regarding statewide training operations and scheduling. Evaluates training effectiveness and recommends improvements to training programs and instructional materials. May conduct inspections, evaluations, or audits related to training operations and compliance. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required Education and Experience:
Licensed Texas Peace Officer in good standing. Minimum 5 years of law enforcement service to include training. TCOLE Basic Instructor Certification. Valid Texas driver license. Bachelor's degree. Experience may substitute for education. Education may not substitute for the experience requirement.

Experience in public speaking and classroom instruction. Organizing and coordinating multiple training programs and schedules. Preparing reports, correspondence, and training documentation. Experience coordinating and conducting training programs. Experience in maintaining training records and documentation. Experience developing lesson plans and instructional materials. Experience conducting statewide or regional training programs. Verbal and written communication. Problem solving and decision making. Interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Effectively present information to groups. Maintain accurate records and documentation. Work independently and exercise sound judgment. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with agency staff, instructors, training providers, and outside organizations. Travel statewide as required. Preferred Education and Experience Supervisory experience. Experience using TCLEDDS. Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities TCOLE standards, rules, and applicable regulatory requirements. Law enforcement instructional methods and training practices. Curriculum development and lesson plan preparation. Recordkeeping and records management practices. Microsoft Office applications and related database systems.
Physical Requirements:
Frequent travel throughout the State of Texas. 50% or more. Sitting and standing for extended durations. Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods throughout the day. Must be able to safely and reliably operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to qualify at least annually on the TCOLE course of fire with a pistol, rifle, and shotgun. Minimal physical exertion beyond basic office tasks. Consistent use of office equipment, such as computers, phones, and printers. Adequate hand-eye coordination for typing and computer use.
