SCOPE OF THE ROLE
The Training Coordinator will design, develop, and manage training systems that support operational excellence across manufacturing, laboratory testing, and logistics functions. The role is responsible for developing and maintaining comprehensive training programs that ensure employees are skilled, safe, and aligned with standardized work practices. This role focuses on creating training materials, developing SOPs, building and maintaining skill matrices, supporting safety and 5S initiatives, and establishing clear career progression pathways across operational roles. The successful candidate will work closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, EHS, and HR to ensure training programs support business needs, compliance requirements, and continuous improvement goals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Training Program Development & Implementation Design, develop, and deploy training programs for manufacturing, lab testing, and logistics operations. Create structured onboarding and role-based training plans for new hires and internal transfers. Develop blended learning materials including classroom content, on-the-job training guides, job aids, and visual work instructions. SOP & Standardized Work Development Create, review, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and standardized work instructions. Ensure SOPs reflect current best practices, safety requirements, and quality standards. Partner with subject matter experts to capture tribal knowledge and convert it into documented, repeatable processes. Skill Matrix & Competency Management Develop and maintain skill matrices for all operational roles across manufacturing, lab, and logistics. Define required competencies, certification levels, and requalification intervals. Track training completion, competency status, and cross-training coverage to support workforce flexibility. Safety, Compliance & EHS Training Support development and delivery of safety training programs in collaboration with EHS. Ensure compliance with OSHA, internal safety standards, and site-specific safety requirements. Integrate safety-critical steps into SOPs, training materials, and skill assessments. 5S & Continuous Improvement Support Develop training materials supporting 5S, visual management, and workplace organization standards. Support rollout and sustainment of 5S initiatives through training and auditing support. Collaborate with operations and CI teams to reinforce standard work and continuous improvement behaviors. Career Progression & Workforce Development Build clear career progression frameworks for operational roles. Define skill, training, and experience requirements for advancement. Support employee development by aligning training plans with career pathways. Training Records & Documentation Maintain accurate training records, certifications, and competency documentation. Support audits by ensuring training documentation is current and accessible. Analyze training data to identify gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with Production, Lab, Logistics, Engineering, Quality, EHS, and HR teams. Support operational changes, new equipment, or process updates by developing required training materials. Act as a key contributor to operational readiness and change management efforts.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
Associate or bachelor's degree in training & development, Industrial Technology, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field. (Equivalent experience in manufacturing training may be considered.) 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing, lab, or logistics environment. Demonstrated experience in developing training programs, skill matrices and competency frameworks. Experience supporting safety, quality, or continuous improvement initiatives preferred. Familiarity with 5S, Lean manufacturing, or continuous improvement principles. Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and digital documentation systems. Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) is a plus.
