This newly created position is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys improving systems, supporting people, developing meaningful training, and helping organizations grow through clearer expectations, stronger communication, and ongoing learning. We are looking for a self-starter who is interested in helping shape and build a sustainable training and performance support program for a public library system serving diverse communities across Hinds County. About the Role The Training & Performance Specialist will focus primarily on: Developing and improving employee orientation and training Creating practical training materials and resources Supporting managers with performance guidance and workplace consistency Coordinating required workplace and compliance-related training Helping identify operational gaps where additional training or clarification may improve outcomes Supporting employees and managers through organizational and operational changes This role is designed to strengthen organizational consistency, staff preparedness, communication, and employee success across the library system. This is not a traditional human resources role. Human resources responsibilities are handled collaboratively among managers, library administration and legal counsel. Payroll and benefits administration are managed by workforce operations staff. Instead, this position is focused on workforce training, staff development, organizational consistency, and performance support. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is someone who: Enjoys building and improving systems Communicates clearly and professionally Is comfortable working independently and collaboratively Can help translate policies and procedures into practical day-to-day operations Understands how meaningful training can improve employee success and organizational performance Is adaptable, organized, and comfortable supporting change in a organization actively modernizing systems and processes Candidates with backgrounds in instructional design, workforce development, training, education, organizational development, or related fields are encouraged to apply. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Organizational Development, Human Resources, Business Administration, Communications, Workforce Development, or related field (or equivalent experience) 3-5 years of experience in training, instructional design, workforce development, staff development, organizational support, or related areas Experience developing or delivering training programs or instructional materials Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills Comfort learning and using technology systems and training tools Preferred experience includes: Learning Management Systems (KnowBe4, Niche Academy, or similar) Training content creation, presentations, guides, or instructional materials Public sector, nonprofit, education, or community-based organizations Salary & Benefits Salary range: $45,000 - $50,000 annually Employer-paid base health insurance Mississippi PERS retirement Employer-paid life insurance Employer-paid short-term disability Paid holidays off Accrual of sick and vacation leave About Us The Jackson-Hinds County Library System serves communities throughout Hinds County through a network of library branches, outreach services, educational programming, and public resources designed to support lifelong learning and community engagement.
