Job Description

Main 2.0 Lab Assistant Job Description Part-Time Lab Assistant to support hands-on learning and lab operations within its AI & Data Technology program. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the effective use of AI lab equipment and technologies across both credit and noncredit programs. The Lab Assistant will help prepare lab environments, assist instructors and students, and provide technical troubleshooting support to create a smooth and engaging learning experience in applied AI and cloud computing. This role also contributes to the broader goals of the Mississippi Artificial Intelligence Network (MAIN), advancing AI education access statewide.
Job Duties Lab Preparation & Equipment Support:
Set up and maintain lab hardware, including computers, AI-enabled devices, and networked equipment. Ensure all software and tools required for instruction are installed and function properly Technical Assistance for
Students & Faculty:
Provide in-lab support, including helping students with setup, logins, and tool usage. Assist faculty with troubleshooting issues and configuring AI/cloud development platforms
Applied Learning & Project Support:
Support students during project-based learning activities that involve cloud computing, AI workflows, and data handling. Maintain organized digital and physical lab environments for safe and effective use.
Resource Management & Reporting:
Track equipment usage, software needs, and any issues that require escalation or replacement. Report equipment malfunctions to the supervisor in a timely manner. Help prepare basic usage and support documentation for instructors and learners.
Public Relations:
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with college personnel, students, and the community. Support demonstration and recruitment events to represent IT programs at MGCCC. Mandatory Qualifications (M1) Associate of Applied Science in AI and Data Technology, or equivalent experience with at least 20 semester hours of college credit in IT-related courses. (M2) Experience with computers, software installation, and basic networking. (M3) Ability to assist others in using technology in a learning environment. (M4) Strong communication skills and attention to detail. (M5) Proficient in working in a Microsoft enterprise environment. Desirable Qualifications (D1) Experience developing machine learning solutions in a project-based work environment. (D2) Exposure to AI tools such as Jupyter, Python, or machine learning libraries. (D3) Previous experience in a lab or IT support setting. (D4) Ability to troubleshoot hardware/software issues and explain solutions clearly.
