Location:
Resource Center Lake Washington School District is seeking a qualified educator to join the Student Excellence and Engagement team starting in the 2026-2027 school year. The Social Emotional Development Specialist (formerly Student Services Specialist ) is responsible for mobilizing high-quality social-emotional learning in classrooms by supporting explicit skill development, integration with academic instruction, and the creation of supportive learning environments that foster belonging, engagement, and high expectations through multiple collaborative pathways utilizing a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) approach. This role specializes in explicit SEL skill instruction and the integration of social-emotional practices within academic classrooms.
SALARY:
1.0 FTE

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Builds adult capacity through partnering with educators, leaders and specialists through a variety of structures (e.g. team collaboration, professional learning, modeling and consultation) to support implementation of SEL practices in classroom settings Cross departmental collaboration with Teaching and Learning, Special Education and Professional Learning team members to ensure seamless instructional alignment and integration between social-emotional skill development and classroom instruction. Supports the development of inclusive, engaging learning environments aligned to Danielson Domain 2 Applies knowledge of MTSS to support school teams in strengthening prevention-based SEL practices and aligning supports to student needs. Use data to inform SEL practice supporting use of climate data and engagement data Connects data to instructional adjustments and SEL supports Collaborates with educators, specialists and district teams to support implementation of SEL practices while remaining connected to broader district priorities Supports the use of assessments and data to evaluate SEL practices and inform continuous improvement Collaborates with teams to apply data-driven approaches that strengthen proactive SEL supports Collaboratively creates and curates tools, exemplars and resources that support explicit SEL instruction and integration into daily practice. Supports alignment of SEL practices with district policies related to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practice Collaborate closely with Student Excellence and Engagement leadership to ensure effective communication and coordination between SEE staff, principals, teachers, and other departments. Provide insights to student services teams in effectively utilizing technology for assessments, data tracking, and reporting. Other duties as assigned
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
Deep understanding of SEL competencies and the ability to translate them into explicit, developmentally appropriate instruction and integrated classroom practices Demonstrated expertise in explicit SEL skill instruction Demonstrated ability to integrate SEL into academic instruction in alignment with the Danielson Framework for Teaching Strong instructional background with the ability to support integration of social-emotional practices into core academic instruction Experience supporting adult learning across multiple structures (e.g., professional learning, team collaboration, consultation) Ability to develop practical, classroom-ready tools and resources Demonstrated ability to influence practice without direct supervisory authority Teacher leadership experience including planning, leading, implementing, and sustaining long-term projects and related professional learning Demonstrated commitment to equity with the ability to effectively and collaboratively work with diverse populations while modeling social emotional competencies Demonstrated commitment to in-depth collaboration for whole team/program success Training and/or experience in facilitating adult learning Ability to align SEL practices with MTSS, intervention, and special education supports in collaboration with school-based teams Ability to collaborate with and influence a diverse group of adults for the purposes of promoting curriculum, instruction, assessment and technology integration and implementation Demonstrated ability to learn and integrate new technology Demonstrated ability to apply culturally responsive practices to support equitable student outcomes and inclusive classroom environments Implementation of effective instructional strategies and learning theory in diverse settings Clearly articulates ideas verbally and in writing
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Current Washington State teaching certificate Five years of successful, student-centered classroom teaching experience and strong ideas for and/or experience implementing innovative technology solutions in the classroom Commitment to the vision, goals, and philosophy of the Lake Washington School District Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite and educational technology tools
