Job Description

Overview The Animal Care Specialist supports the daily operations of the shelter by providing compassionate, comprehensive care for all animals. This role ensures animals are healthy, comfortable, safe, and well‑socialized while maintaining a clean and organized environment. Key Responsibilities Provide daily care, feeding, watering, and enrichment for all shelter animals. Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, and common areas following shelter protocols. Monitor animals for signs of illness, stress, or behavioral changes and report findings promptly. Assist with basic medical care such as administering medications, treatments, and vaccinations under supervision. Support intake procedures, including initial evaluations, documentation, and safe handling. Participate in behavior assessments and socialization activities to improve adoptability. Maintain accurate records of feeding, medical treatments, and observations. Assist adopters, volunteers, and visitors with information, animal handling, and general guidance. Follow all safety procedures to protect both animals and team members. Help with laundry, inventory, restocking, and general facility upkeep. Qualifications Experience working with animals in a shelter, veterinary, or similar setting preferred. Ability to safely handle animals of varying sizes, temperaments, and medical needs. Strong observation, communication, and problem‑solving skills. Comfortable performing physical tasks such as lifting, cleaning, and standing for extended periods. Compassion, patience, and commitment to animal welfare. Schedule & Work Environment May include weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings. Work is active and may involve exposure to noise, odors, cleaning chemicals, and unpredictable animal behavior.
Pay:
$17.00 - $19.00 per hour
