This role provides the caretaker with on-site housing in exchange for 20-25 hours of work per week. Our program requires a minimum 3-month stay. An additional meal stipend is provided monthly. The position offers an opportunity to engage in meaningful work by working closely with rescued animals from abuse and/or neglect, while collaborating with sanctuary volunteers and the local community. Please be aware that we are a vegan sanctuary and require volunteers to maintain a vegan lifestyle while on-site. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing exceptional care to a variety of farmed animals, ensuring their health, safety, and comfort. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where animal welfare is the top priority. Prior experience in animal handling, pet care, or veterinary assistance is highly valued. The position is vital to maintaining animal well-being and supporting the daily operations of our sanctuary. Responsibilities Provide daily feeding for all our animals, including goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, ducks, and cats Administer medications and treatments following veterinary instructions accurately Support medical staff with procedures such as vaccinations, injections, or laboratory sample collection. Monitor animal health and behavior, reporting any concerns or abnormalities promptly Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of animal enclosures, treatment areas, and equipment using aseptic techniques when necessary Assist with bathing and grooming routines for pigs and chickens Skills Prior veterinary or animal care experience preferred Strong animal handling skills with proficiency General knowledge about the various species of animals we provide for Experience with animal restraint techniques across different species Ability to work efficiently in an evolving environment while maintaining attention to detail Excellent communication skills for interacting with other volunteers and medical staff Compassionate attitude towards animals and dedication to their well-being
