Dog Bather/ Finisher Laketown Animal Hospital Springfield, IL Job Details Part-time $15.50 - $18.00 an hour 2 hours ago Benefits Employee discount Qualifications Pet care Customer service Pet grooming High school diploma or GED Disinfection procedures Dog handling Animal restraint Full Job Description Under the direction of the Grooming Manager, provides for the constant cleanliness of pets in our care, cages, runs and salon area.
SPECIFIC DUTES
Be adept at bathing different sizes and breeds while utilizing the appropriate tools to ensure high-quality work and meeting or exceeding the expectations of the client Give baths (ordinary cleansing, deshedding, medicated) and perform whatever grooming / drying / brushing / may be necessary to the treatment and constant cleanliness of each animal. Be passionate about pet care and well-being and be able to recognize basic skin and health issues in order to inform our veterinary staff Possess an aptitude for bathing / brushing/ finishing grooming dogs in a high-volume environment in accordance with each client's specifications, and to the standards adopted by our clinic Be able to work seamlessly in a team environment, as you will work with other groomers, bathers, receptionists, and clinical staff Communicate and document appropriate detail of service and adhere to the company's policies and procedures. Receive animals to be admitted for grooming and be responsible for their proper identification and for recording their respective locations. Release animals to their owners and ensure that every animal released is clean and properly bathed / groomed (if applicable) Assist grooming staff and other personnel with canine restraint as needed. Clean salon as assigned, including using the floor cleaning equipment . Clean and sanitize all cages, runs, equipment, wards and related areas Other duties assigned as required.
JOB DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
  • Bathing, brushing, blow drying, finishing, and the proper care and inspection of dogs
  • Nail trims, anal gland expressions, ear cleaning, canine restraint
  • Documenting services and animal behavior in paper format and on the computer in the medical chart
  • Excellent customer service
  • Be a team player, and be willing to learn and assist others in daily duties, teach and educate other staff members of departments
  • Maintain cleanliness of grooming areas at all times included to, but not limited to, sweeping, mopping, cleaning grooming kennels, tubs, removal of trash, laundry, filling shampoo / conditioner, and clippers / tools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Cleaning and disinfecting methods and the use and care of cleaning materials and equipment Proper methods of animal restraint Animal behavior (canine) Ability to: use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency Perform moderately heavy physical labor Sympathetically and patiently treat sick and injured animals Learn to recognize abnormal conditions Understand and carry out oral and written directions Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work Ability to work independently and in a team setting
Education:
Equivalent to completion of 12th grade
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Basic grooming techniques and terminology; supplemental courses in the field of Biological Science, Anatomy, and Physiology, Nursing, Medical Assisting or Veterinary Technology are appreciated
Experience:
Previous experience in a grooming salon
PHYSICAL EFFORT
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, stand, stoop, walk, sit, talk, and listen; may be required to walk or stand for long periods of time; will use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel; will reach with hands and arms. The employee is often required to lift and carry materials weighing fifty pounds or more; handle dogs weighing up to 150 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to hazards associated with aggressive patients; hazards associated with infected animals and controlled substances; exposure to unpleasant odors and noises; exposure to bites, scratches and animal wastes; possible exposure to contagious diseases.
