Seasonal Marine Mammal Trainer Indianapolis Zoo - 4.1 Indianapolis, IN Job Details Seasonal From $13 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications Outdoor work High school diploma or GED Driver's License Full Job Description From narrating dolphin presentations for Zoo guests to implementing and developing enrichment activities for our marine mammals, our Seasonal Marine Mammal Trainers are always on move! The Indianapolis Zoo is searching for a Seasonal Marine Mammal Trainer to join our pod! Ideal candidates are committed to advancing the Zoo's mission to protect nature and inspire people to care for our world. As a seasonal trainer you will be responsible for the health and well-being of the collections assigned to your care, as well as maintenance of the exhibits. This position has the possibility of working with any animals within the department including dolphins, sea lions, or walruses, as well as helping with special projects. This is a 6-month seasonal position working 40 hours per week. You must be able to work weekends and holidays as needed. Related work experience with marine mammals is highly desirable. This position requires a team-oriented personality that is temperamentally suited to work with animals. Strong observational and communicative skills are a must.
Position Requirements and Responsibilities:
Prior related work experience (internships and/or volunteering experience acceptable) is strongly preferred. High school diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor's degree in a Life Science area from an accredited college/university in life sciences is preferred. Assists with developing and implementing area chats, feeds, demonstrations and behind the scenes tours. Completes area daily and weekly duties, including reports. Assists with animal care and exhibits. Displays a professional attitude and appearance to visitors, volunteers, and co-workers. Physical strength and stamina with the ability to perform very heavy work, exerting at least 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently. Ability to transport and move items, exerting at least 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently. Ability to ascend/ descend ladders, steps, and uneven terrain, while maintaining body equilibrium to perform various jobs. Ability to detect, assess, identify, and observe surroundings to make sound judgments, along with the ability to communicate verbally, comprehend and decipher information accurately. Ability to work outdoors and indoors under all environmental conditions and temperatures. Valid driver's license and driving record that is insurable by our carrier.
