Job Description
Pay:
$12.50 - $16.50 per hour Job description: Animal Care Staff work closely with the Shelter Manager to provide compassionate, hands-on care for the dogs and cats at HSGKC. In this role, you'll play an important part in ensuring animals are comfortable, healthy, and ready for their next step—whether that's intake or finding a loving home through adoption. Daily responsibilities include caring for animals, maintaining clean and safe kennel spaces, and supporting the smooth and efficient journey of each pet through the shelter. Duties include, but are not limited to: Provide excellent customer service, including but not limited to interactions with potential adopters, facilitating meet-and-greet sessions, explaining any history we have on the animal, and conducting dog-to-dog introductions. Conduct adoptions by meeting with potential adopters. Assist/educate new adopters on basic animal behavior, training methods, vaccinations, microchips, and other medical information. Provide for the pets' basic needs in the care of HSGKC. Includes but is not limited to feeding, cleaning of cages, floors, and other areas, walking, and enrichment. Ensure adherence to HSGKC's policies and procedures to promote safe handling practices. Provide daily observation of pets in HSGKC care and communicate changes or concerns to a veterinary team and management in a timely manner with accurate and complete observations noted in the shelter software system (ShelterLuv). Communicate regularly with their manager about departmental issues and actively contribute to problem-solving. Assessing animals for potential intake from transfer partners, owner surrenders, and found strays Administering vaccines and microchipping shelter animals at intake Administering medications and treatments Must engage politely and meaningfully with volunteers and ensure a positive and welcoming environment. Willingness to teach and mentor volunteers to ensure their success in meeting the department's needs. Other duties as assignedQualifications/ Educational Background:
Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred High School or equivalent Experience working in an animal shelter or rescue organization is preferred but not required. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Demonstrates emotional resilience and empathy when working with animals and their care journeys. All HSGKC staff must become Fear Free Certified within the first 90 days.Working Conditions :
