Full Time Sanctuary Animal Caretaker

Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary is a 400 acre non-profit refuge located in Poolesville, MD, which provides a permanent home for over 200 rescued horses, cows, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens and turkeys. The available position is working primarily with pigs, horses and cows. Two long days would also require working with rescued goats and sheep. Responsibilities include feeding and watering animals, cleaning barns, cleaning outdoor areas and food and water bowls, restocking feed, caring for and medicating animals with oral and injectable medications.

Qualifications for the position are:

Excellent animal behavior observation skills Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions Able to perform strenuous physical labor and lifting (applicant should be in good physical condition with no back problems, and must be able to lift 50 lb. feed bags and bales of hay. Able to work well with a variety of people Very reliable, dependable and trustworthy (must have your own car that is reliable) Passionate about animal welfare/rights and veganism Most importantly - a genuine desire to give a good quality of life to the rescued animals Hours - Monday 8-8:30, Tuesday 8-1, Wednesday 8-8:30, Thursday 8-1, Friday 8-1 must be willing to work most holidays.
