UVHS is looking for an full time Animal Care Technician & Adoption Counselor who is willing to tackle feeding, cleaning, poop-scooping and animal enrichment as well as matching furry friends with forever homes. Following UVHS protocols, feed animals 2-3 times per day based on their individual needs and health plan. Record feeding and eating data. Following UVHS protocols, clean and disinfect animal housing and other areas of the shelter. In accordance with shelter procedures and individualized health and behavior plans, provide exercise for the animals. Record exercise data. Become familiar with each animal and their normal patterns and behaviors. Notify supervisors of changes in activity, behavior, or general wellbeing. Implement behavior and enrichment activities as prescribed by the Animal Behavior Coordinator or Supervisors. Using a conversational approach to adoption counseling, interact with potential adopters and show animals. Focus on making quality matches. Complete adoption paperwork with attention to detail. Be actively welcoming and warm toward volunteers, clients, adopters, and other guests. Provide them with support and guidance as needed. Prepare pantry items for pick up. Assist in processing and recording donated non-cash items such as pet food and supplies. Accept donations at the front desk, following protocols for documentation and money handling.
Knowledge & Experience:
Experience working with and handling dogs & cats of different sizes and temperaments Basic knowledge of animal behavior and positive reinforcement training principles Experience with the use of automated tools (ie. database navigation) Ability to lift 40 pounds and sit/stand for extended periods of time.Hours:
40 hours/week either four 10-hour days or five 8-hour days. The position requires weekend/holiday hours, and occasional evening hours.Job Type:
