Job Description
The Equine Care Team position is a typical barn staff position, which requires manual labor, equine knowledge, and equine handling skills. Understanding equine health and behavior is helpful, but training for these skills will be provided. If PATH Intl Certified, a hybrid barn staff/instructor position is available. For the right applicant, opportunity for growth on our team, and certification as a PATH Instructor is possible.
Duties include:
- Mucking stalls/paddocks/run-in sheds
- Clean/fill water troughs and buckets
- Feed all horses according to the feeding chart
- Some heavy lifting required to move supplies (hay, shavings etc.)
- General farm chores and keeping the farm clean, neat and organized.
- Blanket/wrap changing
- Occasional horse grooming/hoof picking as requested
- Willing to help out where needed (during volunteer days, hay delivery days, horse emergencies, various events and more)
- Operating some machinery may be necessary (tractor, side by side)
- Must be able to move, bend, push, pull, lift, carry, and place objects weighing up to 40 lbs without assistance
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Must be willing to work at least one weekend day Skills include:
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately
- Knowledge of horse care and safe horse handling
- Being familiar with signs of illness in horses
- Must have good communication skills to work effectively with team members.
- Must be extremely reliable, self motivated, and have reliable transportation, even through the winter months
- Must reside within a 25-mile radius of Wolfeboro, NH
- Must be able to work one weekend day
