Part-Time Animal Shelter Worker Salary $15.00 - $20.00 Hourly Location 1751 College Ave. Elko, NV Job Type Part-Time Job Number 26-13 Department Animal Shelter Opening Date 04/28/2026 Closing Date 5/12/2026 5:00 PM Pacific Description Benefits Description Under direction, to maintain, organize, and coordinate Shelter activities that provide a full range of animal shelter services related to impounding, treatment, and disposition of animals in a kind and humane manner. Essential Functions Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for the Animal Shelter; Train, part-time and temporary Animal Shelter personnel, volunteers and community service workers; assist in providing or coordinating staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; respond to concerns and questions from the general public. Identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures; review with appropriate management staff; implement improvements. Explain ordinances relating to the care and keeping of animals to the public. Explain City animal control licensing laws and City codes as assigned; issue citations for violations of animal control licensing ordinances and City codes as needed; appear in court and testify on violations. Transport animals to veterinarian for observation or treatment. Provide the necessary care and treatment for all impounded animals; Clean and perform minor repairs to the assigned vehicle, and equipment. Attend meetings and respond to related questions and complaints; provide public education regarding animal control ordinances. Administer shots and medical treatment to animals, under the guidance from a veterinarian; Must be able to euthanaise animals using the two current approved methods

JOB RELATED AND ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of :
Operations, services and activities of a comprehensive animal shelter program. Various breeds of domestic pets. Modern and complex principles and practices of animal care, diseases, treatment and prevention. Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regula­tions (after employed). Modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment. Principles and procedures of record keeping and reporting. Principles and practices used in dealing with the public. Word processing methods, techniques, and programs including spreadsheet applications and shelter specific software; Safe driving principles and practices. Skill to : Operate a variety of animal shelter tools and equipment. Operate modern office equipment including computer equipment and software. Operate a motor vehicle safely. Ability to : Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals. Interpret, explain, and ensure compliance with City and County animal control policies and procedures. Prepare and maintain accurate and complete records. Prepare clear and concise reports. Respond to requests, concerns, and inquiries from the general public with sensitivity and a positive attitude. Interact effectively and sensitively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications :
Experience :
One year of responsible experience performing the equivalent duties of an Animal Shelter Worker.
Training :
Incumbent must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, which is supplemented by college level course work in animal science, zoology, or a related field, or a combination of experience and education that would enable the employee to perform all required tasks.
License or Certificate :
Possession of, or the ability to obtain within one year the Euthanasia Certification (Carbon Monoxide and Lethal Injection) recognized by the State of Nevada. Possession of a CPR/First Aid Certificate. Possession of, or have the ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.
Supplemental Information Special Requirements :
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment: Ability to sit, stand, walk, run, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, climb, and lift 75 lbs.; exposure to heat, cold, noise, outdoors, ability to travel to different sites and locations. Must be able to work varied shifts, weekends, and/or holidays.
