ANIMAL KEEPER I

Basic Purpose and Responsibilities The Buffalo Zoo is hiring for the position of Part-Time Animal Keeper I with a concentration on primates. Under the supervision of the Curators, and/or Zoological Managers, the Part-Time Keeper I is responsible for performing daily maintenance and care of specimens, exhibits, and off-exhibit animal holding and quarantine areas. This includes the care and feeding of exotic animals, the cleaning and maintenance of buildings, exhibits, and yards, and observation and reporting on the physical and behavioral condition of the animals. Assesses daily the status and condition of all specimens, exhibits, and holding areas within the area of responsibility. Zookeepers play an integral role in educating the public and passing on their enthusiasm for animals. Compensation and Benefits This is a part-time, year-round, non-exempt hourly CSEA union position. The hourly rate of pay is $22.52 per hour. Position open until filled. The selected candidate would be expected to work 4-28 hours per week. Part-Time benefits available include: ∙Sick Time is accrued based on hours worked and is available once accrued ( hour of sick time for every 0 hours worked) with a maximum use of 56 hours annually. ∙7.5 hours of annual leave time provided after passing 60-day worked probationary period review; then on an annual basis on union anniversary date. ∙Eligible for Zoo Employee Assistance Program (EAP). ∙Buffalo Zoo family membership (after passing 60-days worked probationary period review). ∙Associates are eligible for discounts while employed at food service and gift shop. Food service discount is 0%.
