Job Description

Job Brief Our current Shelter Manager is relocating. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Shelter Manager to replace her. The new Shelter Manager will oversee the daily operations of our non-profit animal shelter. This includes supervising and coordinating staff and volunteers, managing animal care, fundraising, and working with the public. As an Animal Shelter Manager, your responsibility is to ensure the welfare of the animals under our care, maintain the shelter's facilities, and develop relationships with the community and potential adopters, all in accordance with NYS Department of Agriculture & Markets Article 26C Regulation of Animal shelters. Responsibilities Manage daily operations of the animal shelter including but not limited to decisions about vet care, euthanasia, adoption, inventory ordering and reporting Supervise and coordinate activities of shelter employees and volunteers Ensure animals receive proper care, including food, water, medical attention, and enrichment Maintain detailed records of animals, including medical histories and adoption information in Shelter Manager software Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for animal care, staff safety, adoption, and volunteer participation Assist in coordinating fundraising events and campaigns Work with the public to promote responsible pet ownership and animal welfare Oversee maintenance and cleanliness of the shelter facilities Network with other animal welfare organizations and the community to promote the shelter's mission Create and uphold relationships with area veterinarians for medical care, other animal welfare organizations for transfers and municipal offices Keep financial transactions organized for the Treasurer and create a monthly report(s) for the Board meetings. Qualifications BS in Animal Science and NYS certification as a Veterinary Technician are preferred, but not required. Proven work experience in animal care, preferably in a shelter environment Experience in managing a team Strong knowledge of animal behavior and health care Excellent organizational and people skills Ability to handle animals safely and humanely Proficiency in using computer software for record keeping Exceptional communication and public speaking skills BSc degree in Animal Science or a related field is preferred Benefits Paid time off - vacation, sick, holidays (9)

This role operates in an animal shelter's interior and exterior environments. Physical activities include lifting heavy items and interacting with animals of various sizes and temperaments.
Reporting Structure:
Reports to the Board of Directors President.
Salary:
Salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Pay Range:
$52,500 minimum to $55,000 maximum
