NON-EXEMPT Job Title:

Kennel Attendant Job Summary:

Provides assistance in the daily operations of the shelter, kennels, and cemetery.

Shift Hours :

8-1, weekdays, weekends, holidays.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for the complete care of every animal in the shelter including cleaning and disinfecting the kennels, feeding the animals, medicating, and treating some injuries and diseases. Restocks supplies, does laundry, reports maintenance issues to supervisor. Drives and maintains shelter vehicles. Performs building and ground maintenance. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Education:

Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively. Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License preferred.

Prior Experience:

Will train.

Knowledge and skills:

Basic understanding of the Society's services, policies, procedures, and Pennsylvania dog laws. Understanding of the humane treatment of animals is a necessity. Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds.

On-the -job:

Job proficiency must be attained within three months.

Special Qualifications:

Must have compassion for and deep concern for the humane treatment and care of animals.

Physical Demands and Work conditions:

Frequent lifting of 40 pounds or more. Standing, stooping, and lifting, throughout shift. Exposure to a variety of animals, their odors, noises, and feces. Exposure to materials used for cleaning and disinfection and to medications for animals. Minimal use of computers and office equipment.
